good, at least i don't have to set my offline status while playing game to avoid a random invite from unassigned.
When you think about it, Steam will lose money over this.

Soo.. they have just shown, at least in this particular instance, that they care more about protecting users from Scammers than they do about making money. That is pretty commendable, really. So Good on em I rekon.

What? This possibility is akin to Gabe Newel loosing kilos over this...

Even the lowliest of the low policies Valve chooses to implement in steam (and changes to the worse, apparently), people get more happy all the time and keep defending *that* service EVEN more passionately than before!

And did sales ever decline over there, ever? Of course not! Neither the perimeter of Gabe ever did! No worries over anyone loosing anything, that side!

Only i lost! The regular downvotes from trying to showcase that garbage for what it really is, and convince people to get angry at things that violate them and their rights as consumers, for starters! And my mind. As of late, i even RECOMMEND steam to others, much like that person asking which version of Witcher 3 to get...

If steam was an item, Ol' marquis de Sade himself would certainly turn it into his personal favorite play toy! The more it abuses people hard the more they love it!

Do you mean losing potential money from Steam Market transactions? I can't imagine the "hit" there would be of any real significance.

HeDanny: So now when I get another code for bad rats, I can't just start a new steam account to get the cards out with out paying $5? That seems.. a tad harsh?
harsh for the card farmers but i think actually the prices of the cards will increase now to a better level due to the new limits , some of the other regular users and steam can make some better profit now
Based on the spam issues we had here, i am not surprised...

That was exactly what I was talking about. I do agree, They would make more money blowing their nose over there than they will lose over this. That still does not mean it is not a loss. I said this specifically because they will not be getting money from me, that they might have before I had to pay $5 for an account. It was meant as dry wit. Which never comes across properly on the internet. So, my bad.

I am coming at this from the exact opposite direction. I like cards. This has made collecting them more difficult. :(

Create a new account, add $5 wallet, buy something as a gift, send it to your main account. New account is fully activated, and you can trade whatever it is you bought for something else.
TF2 keys are usually a good buy, since they are used as currency for steam trades, or you can always sell one card from your main account to your alt one and take the 15% (I think) hit from the sale, thus leaving your main with $4.25.

DreamedArtist: Yeah went on steam a week ago and had 177 invites.... all private profiles LOL not going on my steam account in 1 year did a number to my inbox lol thank god steam pulled this

apehater: have steam since 2011, never had this problem. just set your profile & everything to privat.
but but when I play with friends in hawken and they want to add me on steam they have to suffer due to these ass munches spam adding me, And I hate adding and searching for people lol
I think it's a good thing. After all, 5$ are just a couple of games discounted at 75%, nothing big.
When GOG has social features on its client, finally, they'll suffer the same fate like Steam is having now. To much lesser extent, though.

So better learn from Steam first. :)

GOG doesn't let every developer sell or give codes, so would have much less of a problem.
And no one has mentioned the fact that Steam has now locked accounts into home regions? So that you can't even view other region stores by using the /cc=xx at the end of the link, requiring addresses and payment options from the one set region? (Luckily since I've had a grandfathered unlocked account and have purchased from US Steam before I have the option to buy from US or AU stores - switchable at checkout)

I love situation when steam adds new restrictions/rules/whatever and people still follow them like a flock:)
Happy company
