This is the same story I heard last time, no one is sure they own it, so no one can authorise a re-release. It is disappointing the publishers do not seem to consider it worth the effort to find out but perhaps they will get their act together for a HD remake one day.

PetrusOctavianus: GOG should just release NOLF, or perhaps just announce Then I'm sure the lawyers will crawl forth and settle who really owns the rights.
Yeah, GOG is going to open itself up to lawsuits by doing something that stupid.

At times Gamers don't have a good grip on reality.

It is not completely Warner's fault;who has the rights to sell NOLF 1 and 2 is what's the problem. If Warners wanted to make a deal today it could not until the legal issues are settled.

Gilozard: What DRM do the disc versions use? StarForce, SecuROM, something else?

Grargar: Safedisc and SecuROM v2, respectively.
Sheesh, I was just thinking about buying it. No thanks

Just use the black magic that has a name that rhymes with track and those issues are gone. :P
As an owner of 1 & 2... this makes me sad, both of these games are just great and probably some of the best spy themed shooters ever. Dare I say, they even top some of the 007 games thanks to the story and humor alone. Too bad not many new people will be able to experience it without trying to get a somewhat hard to find CD copy, it really is a great and somewhat underrated series.

On the plus side at least GOG knows who claims IP ownership and who to deal with to get the rights to sell.

However, this kind of thing is one of the major reasons I don't like how people use the copyrights system. Warner brothers stood to make a decent amount of money for just signing a document. Why wouldn't you do that? What possible problem could you have with this when you have no plans to do anything yourself?

There have been several similar events like this over the years and its always so $@#!$%%!.

NOTHING to do with WB, EVERYTHING to do with lawyers.
I am beyond upset over this news, especially with it being piled on top of Leonard Nimoy's death as if it's the cherry on a garbage cake. WB are jerks.

ShadowWulfe: I like this possibility more, and considering Night Dive's Steam exclusive moves for the past probably 6 months by now, I would really hope this is the case.
That would be funny if this is the case. Im not upset Night Dive gets elbowed aside. They don't deserve anyone's tears.

Niggles:
I would still rather configure NAM myself with Dosbox than go through a direct Steam purchase.

GOG's made some shit awful moves in the past week but I would still take them over the alternative.
I wasn't expecting them to create a miracle when I heard they were going after the NOFL license, and sure enough they couldn't do it. Still disappointing to hear. =/

Guess I'll try to find used copies somewhere.

Interesting idea and I hope this is the case, but doesn't Night Dive own the trademark now?
Fuck big corporations. And lawyers. And especially lawyers of big corporations.

Night Dive should just fund a modding team to do a free total conversion of NOLF in the CryEngine or something like that. That way they'd get a reasonably priced Cease & Desist letter after the 20th Century Acti-Brothers legal department sorts through their archived shit and we'd finally know who owns what.

Or we'd get a shiny new NOLF for free. Win-win.
Aww crap. :(

I played a bit of the sequel back in the day and it was a good game. It was a pirate copy though, never got around to buying it even though it was my intention. I don't even want to know what the second hand copies go for in eBay..

They are just disc checks. SecuROM wasn't always that infamous.
