Goodbyes are not forever (and war never changes).

It's not the first time we give this advice, but remember to take your Rad-X pills, try not to mistake a G.E.C.K for a gecko (not even remotely the same thing!), and take good care of yourself out there in the wasteland: Fallout, the premiere post nuclear role playing game franchise, is back.
The Fallout games have been with us on day one, and they played an inseparable part in defining the early GOG.com catalog. When they got swept away by radioactive winds, a gaping hole the size of California was left behind that we haven't quite been able to fill... until now!

Once again, you can pick up all three RPG classics at 66% off in a single post-apo bundle that includes:
--Fallout
--Fallout 2
--Fallout Tactics

We're welcoming Bethesda Softworks to GOG.com with more bundles, and tons of new classic releases - all DRM-free of course - and don't forget that two The Elder Scrolls classics (The Elder Scrolls: Arena and The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall) will drop like a bomb straight into your library, completely FREE with any Bethesda purchase. The bundle promos end on Wednesday, September 2, 12:59 PM GMT.

Another case where GOG does something strange without explaining shit.

"Yay, Fallout is back! Wait... I don't own it?!?! oO"
Bethesda in nutshell. Sometimes I do question their business practices and wonder whether we have new EA/Ubisoft growing up.

Let's see:
Take away old games you didn't make - check.
Slap your logo - check.
Keep games away for year and half without reason - check.
Send them few weeks before your new game's release - check.
Take away all goodies - check.

Thank the Emperor they do not offer Fallout Bible as DLC for only 9.99 only on Bethesda store.

GoG still great, nevertheless, don't get me wrong.

SirPrimalform: There shouldn't really be two versions. The new customers should have the extras that the 'classic' versions have and the old customers should have access to the updates.
avatar
Pietro672: My guess is that Bethesda didn't want to provide those extras because they want the Steam and GOG versions to be identical (apart from DRM Free), so the choices were either:

- Update the versions of old customers to remove the extras and add in the patches.
or
- Leave the Interplay customers untouched so that they don't automatically have the free patches, while leaving the extras.

I think they made the right decision, there would've been an uproar if they removed the extras from older customers.
But are we really getting the steam versions here? On the gamepage I don't read anything about the new feautures like widescreen support. From the descirptions on the gamepage it's like gog just release the old Interplay windows installers relabelled.

GOG. GOG never changes.

IAmSinistar: Question for the blues:

Will the Classic (Interplay) editions continue to receive patches, or if we want to ensure that our Fallouts have the latest OS support do we need to buy the new (Bethesda) editions? Please let me know before the sale ends, thank you.
Better poke Judas via chat. These threads move too fast.
avatar
SirPrimalform: Why do I no longer own the Fallout games according to the store? ._.

EDIT: The thread has been going on for a while now, I already know what's going on so stop telling me!
why don't you tell us then so we don't have to look through the entire thread to find the answer? thanks!

Lemon_Curry: GOG. GOG never changes.
Well, we know that's not true... But regards of customer communication you're right of course.

This.

It's great to see these games back but I would at least like an explanation for this.

Good thinking, done.
I was very happy to see the Fallout titles return, but quickly got very puzzled about how the re-release actually works.

If these are "new" versions, why is the Release thread titled "Re-release: Fallout Classics"?

avatar
DukeNukemForever: Most complaints so far are the missing explanations what exactly are the differences between the old ones in the backlog and these versions from Bethesda. Are these the updated versions from Bethesda with widescreen-mod included? Why is the thread labelled as Fallout Classics, like the old Interplay releases in the backlog? As most folks already own the old "classics" releases no ones really understand what's exactly going on here.. Clarifications from gogs side would be helpful why there are new releases and how they differ.
So much this, but, as I said very recently, communication seems to not be one of GOG's strong points.

Ixamyakxim: Probably because GoG gave the freakin' things away free. Do you think GoG would risk negotiations (and have this day never happen?) over a free upgrade to a free series of games? Could you imagine the look on the Beth lawyers' faces when GoG reps are pounding on the table demanding that?
Emm... perhaps I'm wrong, but wasn't it Interplay that gave the series away as a farewell gift to GOG users? For Bethesda to hold this against GOG during the negotiations doesn't make sense, at least to me.
avatar
Alenonimo: That's true. I didn't had to rebuy the games on Steam either. What gives? :(

I'm pretty sure GOG wouldn't be able to give a game away for free without a permission from the rights owner.

GOG couldn't give it away for free, Interplay would, and they probably could before the rights got to Shitesda.

I was happy to see the games back but I see we're getting screwed again because people got angry.

It's fine, I won't give Bethesda more money (actually planned to not give them anymore).

*wink wink* *nudge nudge*

Good point, totally forgot about that giveaway.

ShadowOwl: Good point, totally forgot about that giveaway.
And again, GOG probably did NOT give those away, the publisher at the time did.

Well, at least they're not regionally-priced.
avatar
SirPrimalform: Hmm, they're now marked as "Classic" implying that there is a difference between the new release and the old release and I'm being denied whatever updates were made just because I bought the games when Interplay owned them. Pretty sure this didn't happen for Steam owners of the games.
avatar
Rincewind81: First thing - the new Release is multilanguage. The classic english only. I don't like this.
The old release supports also multilanguage. I don’t know if it did before today, but I am able to choose between several languages

Fallout
• English
• German
• Spanish
• French

Fallout 2
• English
• German
• French

Fallout Tactics
• English
• German
• French
