If I have 10 reputation points, does it mean that the "+" button on my post has been clicked 10 times? (Assuming there's no downvote).

No.

Nope, you get 1 point per first post a day but need several up-votes on a single post before you receive rep for votes (I'm not sure how many votes you need, though, and how much rep you receive per "high rated" post). IIRC you also receive 5 rep points per post marked as a solution in a question thread.

Also apparently the best way to earn rep is not to talk about rep. :P

The third rule is that you ignore the whole thing and just join the community as an equal.

Indeed. Reputation points are like the points on Who's Line Is It Anyway? - they don't matter. :>

Only thing is if you go into the negative you can't post clickable website links. That can be annoying.

Don't worry about it too much, the reputation isn't really good for anything tangible here. The only use it might have is that people in giveaways don't take you for a leecher or troll or bot or whatever if you've got a certain (usually pretty low) minimum rep. If you behave like a human being and post in threads without insulting people, you'll eventually get there anyway, without the need for a cult of fans who upvote all your comments. ;)

I'd like to add to the discussion: beware the down-vote-trolls. Specially since you're still a novice around and will take a while to build a strong rep (which I'm sure you will ;) )

They usually stalk giveaways, trying to discourage community members from taking part on said giveaways, by downvoting their posts as much as they can.

They also stalk the community gifting thread, where people go to ask for games from random strangers who may happen to pass by and decide to donate.

I'm not saying you shouldn't take part on these, they're a great tradition and everybody who isn't an asshole should be able to participate, just be aware that the down-vote-trolls exist.

Also, before I forget, welcome to gog forums! Stay a while and listen! And talk too. :P
