Today, we bid farewell to the legendary post-apocalyptic 2D classics.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we needed to pull the three classic Fallout games, that is Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics, from sale and remove them from our DRM-free catalog. These classic titles have been with us since day one, that is for over 5 years now, and they were always one of the highlights of the selection of games that we offer. There are very few titles in the history of computer role-playing games, that have had so much impact on the gaming landscape, players' expectations, and even the popular culture. The iconic setting, the memorable quotes, and unparalleled amount of fun and challenge these games provide--it's all burned in the memory of a whole generation of gamers. Probably even more than just one generation. It was an honor to have you here, Fallout. Take good care of yourself out there, try not to mistake a gecko for G.E.C.K. (not even remotely the same thing!), and remember to take your Rad-X pills!

All those who acquired Fallout, Fallout 2, or Fallout Tactics on GOG.com prior to the date of removal (that is before Tuesday, December 31st 2013, at 3:59PM GMT), will still be able to download the games' install files (as well as the bonus content) via the "My Games" section of their user accounts. Gift-codes for these three games acquired in our recent giveaway are no longer valid. However, if you own a gift-code for any or all of them that was purchased outside of the said giveaway, you'll still be able to redeem it in the foreseeable future.

We sincerely apologize for all the inconvenience this situation may have caused you. We invite you to browse through 671 other fantastic titles offered in our DRM-free catalog of the best games in history, and we wish you a Happy New Year of gaming!
I see this happen with films in the Criterion Collection too. It's very sad to see stuff like this, especially (not in this case) where the place that it got removed from was the only place to get it legally.

Thunderstone: DAMNIT!! I was going to use those codes for a giveaway and prizes for my guild, a little warning would have been nice on those codes becoming invalid.
I saw somewhere that they had given these away free just before they stopped offering them, can't remember the source; there were rumors that this was about to happen... Feel bad for everyone who didn't already have them in the account.

I'd suggest anyone who still has them on the account to download the installers now...
Well I'm sorry to see them go (I purchased them long ago) but I hold no blame against GOG. Business is business and I will continue to support GOG and blow way too much $$$ on their offerings. They are a great company offering gamers great classics. Steam is good, I've bought many games there as well, but should they pull the plug one day my purchases are gone *POOF*. I'll never have to worry about that here.

Thanks again GOG and wishing you much success in 2014!

PS. I would love to see Wizardry 1-3 added to the catalog. *Nudge*
Now, that's the news for Year's End :-(

Ok - time to made multiply copy of my Fallouts - just in case.

dgn: If it's true about Bethesda and Steam, it really bugs me that a bullshit company like Bethesda that has nothing to do with the Fallout games can do something like this. Pirate Bay here we come.
Sadly, Bethesda literally has EVERYTHING to do with the Fallout games now, since they own it all.

These games were the reason I came to GOG. *Nods head in silence*

Bethesda, I know you're reading this. Please reconsider your stance on DRM-free and work out a deal with GOG.

They own the license, they can do whatever they want. It's ironic that this attitude comes from here of all places, where gamers pride themselves of owning the game license, therefore doing what you want (installs, trade, etc). Beth is simply doing the same thing, on a grander scale. They can choose with who they distribute with, it's their money.

This has nothing to do with DRM, at least as far as the Fallout's are concerned. I think it has more to do with pricing. Beth wants control over that and it's something they can't control as much on here.

I guess Bethesda doesn't want to make money off these games.

So if Bethesda hates money so much, remember that the next time they release any other game. Do them a favor and don't buy it :^)
Bethesda and Interplay...a neverending story...
Plenty of GOGmixes will be -1 game now (or even -2). Kind of a bummer, but I am grateful that for a time these games were available in a DRM-free catalogue, and even more grateful that I got to experience these wasteland adventures.

Thekels: Just to confirm - as long as we've already bought the game, we can still download them and install them forever, right? I don't have to get in a panic and download them, save to an external HDD, and back them up to a cloud since they'll never be able to be re-downloaded, right?
As for me and a quick test, the amount of data downloaded moved up, I can then suppose the games are still available on the account page if purchased beforehand. I hope this state of things is not temporary and that people who bought it recently will be able to try it. I really do,

Hoping to be of help, good gaming to you !

GOG.com: Gift-codes for these three games acquired in our recent giveaway are no longer valid.
You know, if you had made that clear up front (or just bothered to answer any of the several people who asked that specific question at the time), maybe your servers wouldn't have been DDOS'ed to hell and back. Just saying.
This is just sad. :(
Hopefully just a blip. Sad that probably GOG's best year yet has ended with the loss of an original party member, but here's to future allies.
