Xeno Crisis is now available DRM-free.

Xeno Crisis is an arena shooter in which one or two players take control of battle-hardened marines embarking on a deadly mission to confront an alien menace and get home alive! Run and gun your way through thousands of adversaries as you explore the devastated research outpost, searching for survivors, and ultimately facing the origin of the outpost's demise.
Looks alright, but the pixel count is still way too low, even for a retro game.
high rated
I mean it's literally graphics used for the Sega Mega Drive version. That's just what the resolution is on old consoles. Given that they made physical cartridges, it's hard to be more authentically retro than that.

Gawd Strewth!
Hopefully, they will be updating this one.

Very expensive for a retro game, shame they didn't give it some retro pricing.
Looks great but price is a little to high.

Well, enforce the usual crowd point it out, it was likely more expensive back in those days to buy it. Though I agree with you, it’s way too pricey. Games rapidly devalue as more and more are released and whilst it is nice to own something from way back, it’s much nicer to use that money to buy something new. If it was a couple of quid maybe.

Reference galore and I didn't even take a decent look. xD
Kudos for a linux version! I wishlisted the game for now and will wait for some reviews. Sega MD games don't come out so often, especially new ones.
That looks nice! I didn't know about this game before. :D Wishlisted!
Nice another coop game on GOG.

I was about to say this. Its a must buy if you ever touched anything Amiga related though. For anybody else I think that holding off for a discount might be the best choice to make here.

I mean we're 27 years in the "future" now compared to the times where these games were very, very popular :P.

You Might Not Believe How Much Games Cost Back in the '90s
http://www.dorkly.com/post/85513/you-might-not-believe-how-much-games-cost-back-in-the-90s

Back in this era, a retail cartridge game's price had as much to do with the cost of memory and microcontrollers as it did with actual development costs, so the move to optical media was a huge change in videogame profitability.

The prices were grabbed from the same year as the games' releases, so these were cherry picked for maximum effect and not in any way a comprehensive survey.

Not defending any major publisher and/or their cries of poverty (especially in an era where they are making record profits in the most explosively growing medium in human history).

Battletoads for the Nintendo Entertainment System - 1991

Street Fighter II for Super Nintendo - 1992

Hours To Complete 2
Devs on Staff 22
Rom Size 1.3 MB

Riven: The Sequel to Myst (PC) - 1997

Golden Axe for Sega Genesis - 1990

Edit :
Games on cartriges used to go for about 50 or 60$ back in the day
sometimes more
Not counting discounts and price cuts and such things
in some rare cases you migth find a game cheaper at realese back in the 90,s but this was not often
Theres a a scan of Nintendo Entertainment System Ad and the cost of it with some prices for the Games
in the link i provided earlier in the post.
Super Mario Bros 1 costed 29.99$

All true but it doesn't take future predictions into consideration. For instance buying games is largely centralized and streamlined now which does affect prices significantly because supply and demand are more effectively met this way. Some other things include work on instruction manuals and side-stories, stuff like that.

At any case, not taking price calculations into account it still doesn't mean that a games based around a fairly well known era should be priced this much even inside a economic vacuum (you have to compete with other developers inside the market as well, but thats also a part of calculating the price) so my point still stands. Still its always good to see and remember how much games were priced "back in the day" and that video games back during the early 90s and mid 90s really were really a very special thing for many. We're really in the times where almost everyone in the world can enjoy at least some sort of video game because digital devices became really widespread and with the help of the internet things became really easy to distribute effectively.

Still, this reminds back when I bought Transport Tycoon and Sim City for what would be around 90 and 75 USD respectively back then. Those really were some very heavy purchases to make just for video games.
