Play a character-driven, procedurally-generated tactical RPG that brings back the best tabletop roleplaying experiences.
Genre: RPG
Discount: 25% off until 30th June 2022, 1 PM UTC
Eww. Procedurally generated! Looks pretty great otherwise. Into the "B, maybe you'll like it but probably not " list!
For what it's worth, I was initially turned off by both art style and procedural generation, to the point of disinterest... until my brother gifted it to me. We gave it a spin, me more halfhearted out of feeling obligated, and it turns out that I love it. So if you're in a similar situation, maybe it's worth it to give it another look.
Awesome!

Someone here mentioned this game a *ton* and I was interested enough to check the Steam page out ... and LOVED the look of it - sort of like what Massive Chalice (a game I looked forward to and enjoyed) *could* have been, but so much more. The mechanics sounded exactly like the stuff I really enjoy (persistent heroes and world, tactical but easy to see gameplay, that cartoon "Card Hunter" like art style I LOVE AND choose your own adventure mixed in). Honestly it lookeds like everything I want in a tactical RPG, mixed with what I *hoped* Massive Chalice and Pendragon would be.

Funny enough, I actually forgot the name of it EVERY TIME heh! I'd totally blank, then someone here would bring it up again, I'd have that "Ah-ha THAT was the game!" moment... and then forget again for the next time LOL.

Looking forward to picking it up and firing it up tonight but have super high hopes and think this one really will live up to what I was expecting! Anyone wants impressions let me know!

mrkgnao: Another case of GOG getting second class discounts. At this very moment, the game is discounted by 38% to 45% in four other stores.
Only if you count regional pricing/currency exchange shenanigans, which don't really count because that's nothing to do with the discount. It's 25% off/$18.74 on GOG, 25% off/$18.74 on Steam, and 25% off/$18.74 on Itch. I don't know of any other stores worth mentioning.

MasterofFiction: Quoted from game page:
"Wildermyth requires connecting to Epic Online Services for cross-platform multiplayer between Epic Games, GOG and Steam. This can be done anonymously or with an existing Epic Account. Non-crossplay multiplayer is available using direct IP connection. Port forwadring may be required for this option to work. "
"Port forwadring" Indeed.

Nothing to do with regional pricing.

I've only heard of Gamersgate, which is just a Steam key reseller. It's not like GOG is really getting second-class discounts when it's the same on Steam; some no-name store that sells 5 copies doesn't exactly count. It's not discounted on Epic at all, by the way, for whatever that's worth.

Thank you devs for this vote of confidence!

About pricing, with all the bad press GoG gets from Steam owners I'm really glad we are getting this released here at all, discounted or not.

Calling Fanatical, which is one of the largest game retailers out there, possibly much larger than GOG, with over 95 million keys sold in the past 10 years, a "no-name store that sells 5 copies", is an interesting argument.

Nonetheless it is a Steam key reseller. I don't think it's entirely fair to take them into the comparison as equal among stores as platforms, not just middlemen.

GOG is getting second-class discounts in the same way that other actual game providers are getting compared to your deal makers.

Which isn't even mentioning that, if I'm not mistaken, none of those deals get you DRM-free which is worth a little premium anyway, or we could just shop somewhere else in the first place.

GoG sells a different product. There is no comparing, indeed, but that's the point. When a company decides to publish a game here they are trusting in selling a DRM-Free product. It's a different risk-reward evaluation.
Instabuy, heard great things about the game glad it is finally here!

The only reason there are almost no GOG key resellers is that GOG more or less prevents this from happening, which guarantees very little competition and results in the second class discounts I have pointed out.

Do you have objection to other stores selling GOG keys at better discounts than GOG does, as they do for steam games? If so, what is your objection?

I can't comment as to whether the game is DRM-free on steam (as many games are) or not, since I do not own the game, so I can't check.

Absolutely not. Just to the in my eyes not entirely fair comparison between platform and reseller.

I was more speaking generally but out of curiosity I've checked and it does appear to be DRM-free or, more precisely, starting it from a copied folder didn't require the Steam client.

Thank you. That's useful for when I buy it. I'm waiting for the price to drop some more.

It's my (admittedly limited) experience that many, if not most, indie games on GOG are DRM-free also on steam.

The biggest product GoG sells is the installers. The offline installers are gold to me. It means I can take my huge collection with me and never depend on internet. The grid can be out tomorrow and I'll still have my games. It's great.
