Dohi64: there are solitaire collections with 150-200+ variants for the same price, so yeah, it's too much.

ssling: How about over 1000 variants in one package for free?

I mean this game looks visually nice and all but I guess it's targeted to Zachtronics die hard fans and supporters.
so we're paying for graphics now? and sure, there are usually free alternatives, especially for solitaire (I'm aware of pysol, hundreds of them are mahjong levels), but I like having them in my libraries and don't mind paying for them, but they're all the same thing with different coats of paint, so never too much.

Are you talking about 200 variants of the card game Patience? Americans like to use solitaire as a synonym for patience, but it's really just a name for single player games. Not all of the games in this collection are card games by any means.

This was what solitaire meant to me when growing up: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peg_solitaire
The card game was called patience. The point is that these games are all quite different from each other. They're not all just variants of patience.

That's Aesthetic as all get out, but what exactly am I paying for?
There are games that use the 52 card International Pattern deck, games for the 78 card Tarock deck, eight and ten suit Ganjifa games, Hanafuda games, Matrix games, Mahjongg games, and games for an original hexadecimal-based deck.

Don't we always :). There are free versions of all kinds of stuff but the graphics are usually lacking (often other stuff too, although there are some good quality ones like Super Tux Kart).

Dohi64: ...mahjong...
Mahjong solitare is my favorite of these games (looking at Wikipedia it seems it isn't the true mahjong). I like kmahjongg which has a Windows version (direct link). It has 72 layouts if I counted right and you can set it to randomize the type each new game.

Tangram is also great (anyone who got the Itch Ukraine bundle there is one called Temple of Tangram which is an odd game with a bunch of bugs and one of the songs is a bit suicidal but also clearly written by someone who doesn't know English all that well. The pacyderm song is exellent and there is lots of tangram fun.). For physical versions, there is a two person set that I really enjoyed growing up.

I grew up considering solitare to mean not just what Wikipedia describes as "patience" (I've never heard any game called that until your comment) but what they call "Klondike" (the main game of Microsoft solitare, I think they had a few variations). The one you mention I think we just called the peg game. But yeah, the general "solo game that could have a physical version" seems like the best definition to me.

If I may add, the OSgameclones site is only one among a litany of actually libre game sites, even if it does link to several others in the same breadth.

There's also hundreds of old DOS games.

Museum of ZZT, which is dedicated to that particular GCS.

The RSD Game Maker archive, yet another GCS. (I'll be honest, this one isn't so great.)

Kliktopia, an archive of the Klickteam Fusion engine games, which may activate some deeper memories.

Thanks, kliktopia.org and dosgames.com in particular look the most interesting to me. I should also plug Simon Tatham's Portable Puzzle Collection which I have played a bit and has some good ones (after the individual game downloads are some collection downloads; GOG seems to not like the url for some reason but it is easy to find). KDE has a bunch of other good puzzle games also. kjumpingcube is another one I like.

Yeah, I can imagine that tilde would smash the url. Not exactly a standard symbol.
Wow, that sounds fantastic! I'm a big fan of solitaire games, so the idea of being able to enjoy seven different games from Zachtronics, updated with 4K graphics, is really exciting.
I’m so glad I came across your post and discovered such amazing news! Seven more solitaire games with fresh 4K graphics? Count me in! And let me tell you, I am seriously addicted to all things Tarot so that new Tarot-themed solitaire variant has me hyped beyond words. Can't wait to dive into this collection and have a blast.
it's like a treasure trove for card game enthusiasts. As for spider solitaire, it's the classic that never gets old. There's something oddly satisfying about arranging those eight legs of cards, isn't there? It's like solving a puzzle while relaxing your mind.

I've always been a fan of solitaire games, and having a whole collection at your fingertips is just brilliant. It's the perfect way to unwind after a long day or to kill time during a commute. Plus, with Zachtronics' touch, I bet there are some unique twists and challenges thrown in there to keep things interesting.

Now, onto the question posed in the thread: "What's your favorite solitaire game?" For me, it's a tough call between spider solitaire and Klondike. Both offer their own brand of fun and challenge, but if I had to pick one, I'd lean towards spider solitaire for its strategic depth and the satisfaction of untangling those webs of cards.
