A virtual table-top realm opens!

The Witcher Adventure Game, the digital installment of the Fantasy Flight board game set in the dark fantasy realm of The Witcher, is available 10% off for the first week on GOG.com! If you were taking part in the beta-test program for this title, you get a special (non-stackable) 40% off discount, valid until December 27.

Each character has unique skills and multiple ways of overcoming obstacles - the choice is yours: do you fight your way to victory, call on your charm or try your hand at diplomacy? It's the true spirit of board gaming brought straight to your computer screen. Set in the mature and brutal world of The Witcher the game features 4 unique heroes with different skills and approaches to problem solving. Get The Witcher Adventure Game, for only $8.99 (or $5.99 if you were among the beta-testers!), 10% off until December 4, 10:59AM GMT, on GOG.com. The 40% off special discount for beta-test participants remains valid one month after the game's release until December 27.

SPECIAL CONTEST ANNOUNCEMENT!

In The Witcher Adventure Game, you race against your opponents to gather the most victory points and work together to complete quest objectives. We think it would be fun to find out whom you would like to see in the game (and reward you for it!) - which brings us to the object of this character creation contest.

Pick a character from the Witcher universe, describe their role in The Witcher Adventure Game along with a special ability they can use and 2 skills they can choose to master. Then, post your entry in the forum thread for this news post, making sure it’s only up to 100 words long.

In the game itself, you can take on the role of one of four characters from the Witcher universe - so make sure you don’t double up on the ones that already exist in-game!

-- Geralt of Rivia, the monster slayer - single-handedly eliminate your opponents with the help of powerful potions or witcher signs.

-- Triss Merigold, the cunning sorceress - you can protect yourself with magical skills and cast spells in battle on your opponents.

-- Yarpen Zirgin, the dwarven warrior - call on the help of your fellowship of dwarves to aid him in battle.

-- Dandelion, the rogue bard - become a cunning diplomat and talk your way out of conflicts, bribe your opponents with gold or threaten to call on more powerful friends.

We’ll choose three best entries that will be rewarded with a physical copy of The Witcher Adventure Game from GOG! (Disclaimer: we can't promise that the winning concepts will ever appear in-game.)

More details on the rules:
-- English-only entries, please!
-- The contest entry deadline is in one week - 11.59 PM GMT, December 4th
-- We’ll announce the winners two weeks after that (on December 17th) in the first post of this thread, with links to their submissions, and through a private message to the three winners
-- One post per person! Otherwise, none will be counted
-- Similarly, one prize per person, of course ;)

Have fun, and good luck!

realkman666: I never really got to play during the beta, so who knows? Others will have valuable input.
I tried only tutorial, find out that I never played such type of game, so I was a little too shy to enter multiplayer...
so I can't wait to try a singleplayer :D
But yeah, there is something about already pre-ordered games - that enthusiasm of surprise release is missing (but always better than to see a game I own somewhere else...)

RPGOracle: With GOG's Fair Price Package, that shouldn't really be much of an issue... unless you have no intention of ever buying another game on GOG...

Smannesman: Fair pricing is BS.
Forcing me to spend even more money in a store is not doing me a service, nor is that reply really.
Given European regulations for game pricing, it's the closest they can come to giving you back the extra money you spend on the game. Legally they're just not allowed to give you a discount on these games straight away.
Under the current regulations, what better option would a retailer such as GOG have to give you back the extra money?
A contest? I'm so in.....!

If I understood the rules correctly, here is my entry for my favourite character:

-- Iorveth, the elf commander: Greet your opponents on the battlefield with a mighty hail of arrows and protect yourself by hiding in the forest using stealth while commanding an army of Scoia'tael units to turn the tide of the battle.

Good luck to all participants and thanks GOG for the awesome contest! Cheers!

edit: some typos!

OK, my contest entry. I know hardly anything about the game, so be gentle with me. ;)

Emiel Regis, the sober vampire -- a barber surgeon and an alchemist, an intellectual.

As a vampire, he possesses a range of abilities allowing him to not only vanish in a thin air or turn into a bat and fly, but also influence people. His great strength is regeneration which allows him to recuperate from even the most gruesome wounds. Although he's an abstinent, drinking blood has a potential to greatly increase his physical strengths.

Ability:
-- regenerate -- remove all wound tokens,
Skills:
-- transfrom -- take a form of a bat to avoid an obstacle during travelling,
-- influence -- influence encountered character or enemy.

Not have the regional price to begin with. Basically, the moment they started allowing it, they gave in to regional pricing. They're allowing publishers to get away with it, regardless that they're placating their own customers with the fair price package. And this was one of the last places to really take a stand against it.

I think that's where most the complaints come from.

That and the complaints that regional pricing was supposedly for the customers benefit and was going to bring in big games they otherwise wouldn't have been able to, yet there haven't been any, it's mostly indie titles, and now, even their own game, one which has no excuse (like a retail licensing deal) for the regional pricing (mostly summarized from the regional pricing thread on here)

Ingsoc85: What the hell GOG?! why do I need to enter my account details in order to enter the game, even though I want to only play it offline? You specifically promised this galaxy thing would be optional :(
I could understand the need to login for the beta, but for the final game this is not acceptable. Aliens vs Predator also requires you to install Galaxy in the final purchasable release. I'm starting to hate Galaxy before it is even fully released.

For the time being I'm putting games that use Galaxy on my personal blacklist, at least until installing and using Galaxy is completely optional...

There's SP? Cool. I went through all the tutorial and stuff, learned how to play, tried to connect, nothing for 20 minutes. G'bye.

Yep. It's just a fucking sneaky install that pops up as a surprise. Just like Uplay the first time you install a game. This has been a year of fuck-ups for GOG, and they're completely oblivious.

Hi Ingsoc and everyone else,

Just wanted to pop in and let you guys know that what you are describing is not what is actually supposed to be happening and is a bug.

We are currently working on getting this mistake fixed ASAP. Sorry about that!

GOG.com: ... December 4rd
Just a little nitpick since I was especially interested in the deadline for this contest - it's probably the 4th (or was it the 3rd after all)?

Ok, but can you install the game without also installing the "optional" Galaxy client, because you can't with AvP and that should be fixed ASAP as well!

Like I said, we're working on these issues and we should have them resolved ASAP.
If anyone else happens to wonder, like me, why only 10% discount shows even if you played the beta, the 40% discount only appears when adding it to the cart.
