Suspension of comic relief.

The Interactive Adventures of Dog Mendonça and Pizzaboy®, an offbeat tale of supernatural mystery, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount.

You may know Lisbon as this picturesque, historical city at a three-hour driving distance to excellent wine. What you probably didn't know is that Lisbon also happens to be kind of an international hub for supernatural beings, living incognito among us. Overweight werewolf Dog Mendonça is one of them but he is also a professional problem solver, as is his strikingly unremarkable apprentice Eurico, the ex-pizzaboy. Or so he claims.

Regular folk may be unaware of the monsters living in their midst but that doesn't mean that the strange disappearances of supernatural citizens have gone unnoticed by these brave investigators of the occult. Under the dispassionate guidance of his hairy mentor, Eurico will once again team up with a millenia-old demon trapped in the body of a small girl and a whacky gargoyle that just can't seem to keep its head attached to its body. Together they will scour the Lisbon underworld for clues, persons of interest, and items not nailed to the ground in this point'n'click entry to the noir-ish comic book universe. Before they can crack this case open, however, they will have to crack some skulls and perhaps even the perceived boundaries of the material world.

Navigate Eurico through the monster-filled underbelly of Lisbon and unravel The Interactive Adventures of Dog Mendonça and Pizzaboy®, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 10% discount will last until March 11.
Nice Indiana Jones Type Set. ^_^

DeMignon: True shame indeed. No wonder Cyprus and Greece have been treated with ignorance every now and then in modern history. Nobody really cared, when the Turks took advantage of a favourable situation and seized parts of Cyprus. Same goes for the time, when a mislead former Yugoslavian country named itself Macedonia, while Macedonia is officially the northern part of Greece, the core region of the ancient Greek kingdom Macedonia. The population of nowadays Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia is Slavic not Greek. They don't even speak Greek, but that didn't stop their government from making the ancient Macedonian Star banner their own, let alone naming their country Macedonia. I still don't understand how Greek's European partners could let this happen without any protest .. guess we hear too little about these affairs in the west, or are we simply too indifferent ;-)
Thank you for understanding the whole situation of Macedonia so well. It is refreshing to see that some people outside of Greece understand what's really going on regarding the state of Skopje (we Greeks mostly call that state just "Skopje" -from its capital- or sometimes, on a more "official" context, "FYROM") -especially as even GOG calls that country "Macedonia" in its list of countries, while it isn't even geographically Macedonia (it's more like "Southern Serbia" or something). A tiny precision though: Afaik, the government of Skopje claims that the people that lived in the ancient kingdom of Macedon (the official name many westerners use for that kingdom as to not confuse it with the name Skopje usurped) precisely did not speak Greek but "Macedonian" -and they use as an excuse the speeches of Demosthenes, an Athenian who, out of elitism, called these guys "barbarians" the same way a "sophisticated" guy would think of someone from the country with derision and contempt...
Anyways, thanks again for understanding and have a good weekend.
I'm a bit scared off by the download size – I mean, it's so tiny. Can anyone estimate the length of this adventure game?

vicklemos: I knew this would appear in here, judging from the quality of this stunning game.
Now, a buck for those (non spanish/portuguese speakers) who can say MENDONÇA the right way ;P
The surname is Mendoza, with Z, in Spanish. No Mendosa. The Spanish Z doesn't sound like S, but Latinamerican people pronounce Z like S while, people of Andalucia do the opposite. They change S pronunciation for Z (or C).

Are you happy now??. Next time, the Ñ pronunciation. XD

I had Spanish in high school so I know how Ñ is pronounced :P
Looks to be a great game.

I backed them on Kickstarter, cos they said it would be DRM-free.
But now, us DRM-free fans get a raw deal, while they hand out steam codes.

Okam, if you need to install steam, then it's NOT DRM-free!!!

Now if I HADN'T backed them, I would have bought it yesterday, and been playing it already.

I've asked them through kickstarter and they sent the Steam keys for everyone (though I never got mine; or not yet at least). But they'll be sending the extra key next week (they're waiting for Koch Media to deliver the keys).
According to a comment in their last kickstarter update, you should reply to your Steam key email requesting a DRM-Free key. Unfortunaly I don't have the steam key, so I still have to figure that out...

DLanor: OKAM Studio posted this in the Kickstarter backers only update #35:

"We are sending personal emails, if you want a GOG version answer the email and we will send them once we have those keys from Koch! Thank you so much for your support!"
Thank you very much, I checked just once so I didn't see this message! Finally I was too pessimist.
I will post here as soon as I got the GoG key. I wonder if I can give the Steam key or I should just forget it.

Edit : they already answered me : "thanks XXX!! The minute we get the GOG keys we'll send it to you. hope you enjoy it!"
Notice that I got two mails : 1 coming from kickstarter and one other direct from OKAM. I have mailed both and got this answer from kickstarter.

groze: Buying it. Dog Mendonça & Pizzaboy is my favourite Portuguese comic (Filipe Melo, the creator/writer -- also a great pianist/composer, by the way -- is a personal friend, as well!),
I met him last year, and he seemed to be a nice person. I got all the books autographed, and a DVD set of "Um mundo catita". :-)

hummer010: Yet another release with Linux and Mac versions not available at GOG.

This is becoming entirely too common.
Any idea why? Too much work? Costs them too much? Does not meet their standards? What!?

I kind of feel tricked when they say they now support Linux. They say they do, but I don't see much of an effort in doing so.
Steam seems do be doing a much better job in supporting Linux. (A MUCH better job if we include their efforts in advancing the PenguinOS as a viable gaming platform.) So I feel divided between DRM and little support. In the end, I'll be going with "c) None of the above".

Well, having finished the game, I can safely say *every* English-speaker actor owes you a buck. Not only can't they say Mendonça, they also can't say Eurico, Caveira, Estação do Rossio, maravilhoso, Ricardo Forte, Nádia, Ana, Romero... it's kind of sad, actually. A little coaching would have been appreciated, these guys are supposed to be Portuguese characters, they should at least know how to properly say names of things in proper European Portuguese.

Not to mention that

SPOILERS

you spend the first three quarters of the game looking for Dog Mendonça and *NO ONE*, not even Dog himself, can pronounce his name the right way.

/SPOILERS

It was particularly cringey listening to some guy saying "cávera" and "calavera" on the same sentence, instead of the proper caveira (kah-vuh-ee-ruh).

DeMignon: snip
So much enlightenment. Once again, thanks for sharing your point of view. Solid one, I must say.
I heard that the FYROM's in a dirty mess now, with some terror incidents taking place every now and then.

Gede: I kind of feel tricked when they say they now support Linux. They say they do, but I don't see much of an effort in doing so.
Look at their own product, Galaxy, to see how serious their claims of Linux support are. Galaxy is available on Windows for more than a year now and there are still no signs of a Linux version.

... I still don't understand how Greek's European partners could let this happen without any protest .. guess we hear too little about these affairs in the west, or are we simply too indifferent ;-)

ow that might be easy to answer: maybe its because most of these EU 'pardners' (it is partners but I use the d instead of the t)
maybe they have no spine i ? they just might lack a spine, so you can't expect anything from them.

The Netherlands has become 'spineless' over the past decade or so, nowadays they always give (in) never or seldom ask anything back, bring an apple for 'the teacher' every day, pay the bills on time, and will do more things just to be the best and nicest kid in the class.
The dutch government became 'weaker' and 'weaker' , she will always give in first cause she wants to make sure not to accidentally upset anyone.
Since every party in the netherlands is weak there's nothing left to vote on, so many just dont vote at all.

We had bad quite some bad times in the 70s,(73-77) but we managed, 80s were also troublesome , but we past it...
all what happened back then is nothing compared to the stuff thats going on now, imho its peanuts compared to the biggest challenge we face right now....

sirdilznik: Bummer that GOG only has the Windows version. Oh well, off to Steam I go to get my Linux version.
Could you check and see if the Linux version works without Steam running?

Edit: Can confirm the Linux version is DRM-free on Steam. I dunno about Mac and Windows.
