In the press:

Stronghold Crusader II was a rare game that I got lost in. I started playing and before I knew it, it was six hours later. Who can resist a game about castle building, economy raising, and taking on large castles full of troops and hazards? Especially when you can soften up the numbers by launching diseased animals over castle walls.--Dark Station

The first thing that you'll notice when making your initial tentative steps into Stronghold Crusader II is the level of detail that's been invested into making its world as joyous to behold for the player as possible. --Game Revolution

micktiegs_8: I looked on Steam for Stronghold 2 and couldn't find it. Seems to be on a 2k shop though.
avatar
Matruchus: Yeah, the games are stil owned by 2K as it seems. The game are on Steam in the Stronghold Collection.
ooooh. The search engine failed me :P
avatar
Crosmando: Probably better off waiting for a "complete" edition with all the DLC in a few months...
There is a complete edition already that includes all the dlc and the special edition game version but its sold only on Steam. Since the complete version was released before the game came here, I guess gog did not see its worth to sell here.

Here is the Firefly news announcement for it: http://www.fireflyworlds.com/2015/11/06/ultimate-edition-new-dlc/

d2t: i mean, back in the old days there were never such things as paid expansions packs, right, right???
...
Depends on what you think the good old days were, late 80's and early 90's, not many expansions to be seen. But if you mean late 90's, sure.

I remember buying Half-Life: Blue Shift for like $50 on release day in the "old days", and feeling thoroughly ripped off that it was 3 hours long.

The first game I remember buying expansion packs for was Test Drive II for the Commodore 64. The base game only included two cars! All the others were expansion stuff. And I know subLogic Flight Simulator and Chuck Yeager's AFT had paid scenery disk addons, but I didn't buy those. I'm pretty sure, but not positive, Pure Stat Baseball had paid disks with new stats, and I remember one of the football games had 'stadium disk' expansions back in the '80s.

You know what I remember from the 90s? Playing Combat School to the point where I can now press buttons and move sticks on a controller at seemingly inhuman speeds. Oh, and also a really cool isometric ninja game... I can't remember its name and I'm bothered by the fact.

It wouldn't be any of the Last Ninja games now, would it?

It definitely was one of them... Thanks!

ElTerprise: I think that was Stronghold 3. Apparently it was a broken mess at release.
avatar
Matruchus: Yep, it was Stronghold 3. The game that teached me never to preorder anything again. Still a pile of shit at this moment.
Thanks, I wasn't sure of the history of the series.
Quick update:

We've scheduled a stream of the game!

Quill18, the well-known strategically thinking streamer, will be joined by Tony DeLibero, one of the men behind the game, for a two-hour live showing of Stronghold Crusader 2 (DLCs included) tonight at 7pm GMT / 8pm CET / 2pm EST / 11am PST. Be sure to tune in!

ElTerprise: No problem. But it would've been nice to have a Linux version. I guess the game is Windows-only.
avatar
JudasIscariot: It is Windows-only but I can always try to run it under WINE 1.7.53 and report back :D
Are there any news about the wine compability? :)

Well, I am taking several GOG installers home for the weekend and of them is Stronghold Crusader II :)

I also am going to see how GalCiv II or III work on my system along with D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die :D

d2t: care to explain what is your problem with that?

..maybe developers .. offering paid dlcs for their games, ...?
This. DLCs are often a sneaky way to squeeze some more money out of a product, by simply not adding all features in the first place. It's not GOG's fault and there are exceptions, but in general, that's my problem with DLCs. Seedy marketing.
Just wanted to point out that when checking out (through Galaxy at least) it leaves BOTH versions in the cart with their prices added. It doesn't intelligently remove the base version if you have the Special Edition also selected. Nor does it notify you that you have both there or adjust the price accordingly.

Is this supposed to be the case? Some people might unwittingly buy 2 copies, unless it resolves itself during payment?
Surprised neither of originals have a sale discount at all?

Another delay: Wine 1.8-rc1 just came out sooooo I need to test things on that version as there were quite a few fixes done between 1.7.53 (my previously installed version) and 1.8 :)
