Seriously GoG, why is it up to us to pop news onto the forum?

A Mystery as so many other things. Just as why there's no "News" Forum, instead of dropping and letting announcements vanish quickly in the general forum.
The game seems interesting, but $40 for a game that looks like it came out in the mid 90's is a bit steep. I'm not a graphics snob, but the screenshots aren't very crisp.

Because the vast majority of their customers don't get their news on new releases primarily from the forum. ;P These are intended to be comment threads for the actual news posts, and there's little point in creating them until (and unless) someone has a comment to make.
There are a great many things wrong with the forum, and the site in general, but this doessn't really rate as one of them.
I feel lucky today but I'll wait to get it bundled.
And Happy Release Day!

Its a niche game, aimed at serious historical wargamers. For them...and I am one....graphics are secondary to gameplay and accuracy.

It's because everything related to "Slitherine" is exactly the same since the 90's. They only change the names. Nothing else is new.

I absolutely love history games, but this company makes me puke since the very early 90's!!!!!

I don't think it's fair to compare HoI or Victoria to that game, since WWI isn't their core, only mods or DLCs at best. Their goal is something else. They are political, economical and conquest simulations while the other is a war game.

And concerning the price, HoI 3 and Vicky 2 are already "old" games, so to price, compare to HoI IV.

I believe that Strategic Command: World War I is currently aimed to be an evolutive game, content wise, so there's always Strategic Command Classic: World I available for those interested for the old "all and done" version.

Ok you're right. Hearts of Iron IV: The Great War to compare with.

But honestly, we simply don't have enough games, especially WWI related to compare. But nonetheless, I refuse to buy and play any of those Slitherine-related strategy games.

You only need to play one or two and you know them all, since all their games are pretty much the same. Only difference is the time-period, skins and names.

That's not quite true. Panzer Corps and Strategic Command have nothing in common aside from being wargames. It is true that within each series the games are similar. That said, I have played Strategic Command Classic: WWII and it is *very* different from HoI. Both games have their own merits and deficiencies.
No, this game is not geared towards the average fps player that just wants chrome, blood splats and fast vehicles. Not at all. This is how strategy games look like and that is how we want them. Every time.

I understand what you're saying. But you don't really have to put this way.

Placing yourself above others, who you think need blood, gore, shiny graphics and violence to enjoy a game. Where you only need a strategy part of the game.

Thinking highly of ourself, aren't we ? :D

I went to chess school, and play chess since I'm 6 years old. I love complex games. I need complex strategy games. I play the most complex strategy games out there. And this game isn't good enough for that matter.

I like strategy games, and graphics aren't super important, but these seem pretty washed out. To each his or her own though. Glad this game scratches your itch.
Slitherine is a 'publisher' and they publish a lot of different wargames from a number of studios. Some of the studios aim for the simulation side of things rather then the graphics side and some of the studios are small budget indie studios. If you'd like to check out some titles that Slitherine has done there are plenty in the catalog from Battlestar Gallactica to Fantasy General II and Order Of Battle; I don't think you can compare Fantasy General 2 and say it looks anything like Order Of Battle as one user claims.
