The not-so-little house on the prairie.

UPDATE: Good news everyone! Stardew Valley, the irresistible indie sensation, is now ripe and ready to be picked up by Mac and Linux users as well. Off to the countryside, everyone, the rural life awaits!

Stardew Valley, a humble province where opportunities for up-and-coming farmers and hopeful pillars of the community abound, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com.

How kind of your late grandfather to leave you that old farm plot you have so many fond memories of. Sadly, the fields are in poor shape, the house is in disrepair, and a ruthless corporation is bleeding the local community dry of resources. But hard work, dedication, and your new local friends will help you turn this around and build a proper life for yourself.

Armed with only some basic tools and a handful of coins you begin ploughing the land, mining resources, raising animals, or even deforesting your corner of Stardew Valley. As your farming endeavors begin to pay off, your business and household will expand, and soon you will find yourself wondering whether you should rally the local community against the aggressive Joja Corporation or embrace their capitalistic ways. But before you go all revolutionary, you might want to first fix the front fence and put up that scarecrow in the pumpkin fields. You did promise your wife to get it done before dinner.

Work hard, play hard, embed yourself into the local community, and start a new life in Stardew Valley, DRM-free on GOG.com.

IAmSinistar: One thing - does it have "make a mistake, die, and start all over from scratch" gameplay like Don't Starve and Kingdom, or is it more forgiving?
I don't think so, from all I've found so far. I can confirm that in a few hours when I get home. Rune Factory, the worst that happens is your character wakes up in their house if they get knocked out in combat or use up all their stamina.

ErekoseDM: They raised the price on me by $5 when I went to pay . . . :(

Canceled.

Luned: From what price to what, and in what currency? The GOG price in USD is $14.99, same as Steam, at least for US customers.
It was $9.99 USD on game page, and in cart. I click PayPal and it changes the price to $14.99 USD trying to take me to the PayPal page with a higher rate and no warning the price is different.
I am a US customer.

IAmSinistar: Well, I was initially not that interested, but all the chat here makes it sound more appealing. Might still hold off for now though.

Oh, and does it have unlockables?
I hope it's similar to Banished. But i'll be busy with X-Rebirth for a while so i can hold off.
Everyone mentioning Harvest Moon make me think of this instead of a farming simulator...

I don't know what happened, then, because it showed up as $14.99 for me on the GOG store page, and I bought it within 5 minutes of release. $14.99 was the announced price from the developer ahead of time.

That would be better, yes, than the more brutal examples I cited. Though I'm no great shakes at maintaining a viable Banished colony either. :D
Good for Harvest Moon fans. Is it a perfect clone or just some similarities to HM series?
Woot! Been waiting a few years for this. I even enjoyed Innocent Life on the PS2 so I will probably love this.
Does it work on Wine?

It borrows many things from the HM series but also draws from other games and adds its own flavor. Overall Stardew Valley offers more choice and freedom than the more recent Harvest Moon games in what you focus on, and tries to make the gameplay feel less like a chore.

So very similar in many respects but plenty different in others.

Kaien.853: Does it work on Wine?
Yes. Think that's equivalent to wine 1.9.x. Possibly with CSMT patch enabled, but they didn't say.

Thanks.
...And bought. Guess I know what I'll be playing this weekend.
Oh, a harvest moon clone.
Nice, getting it next paycheck.
