GOG Digital Premieres - Call of Cthulhu Adventures

Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice, a mind-bending duo of Call of Cthulhu adventure classics, premiere digitally right now - DRM-free on GOG.com.

An original horror-adventure duo from Infogrames, (the company well known for their Alone in the Dark series) Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice are two of the very few games that get to boast actually taking place within the Call of Cthulhu mythos. With a pedigree like that, you can be sure that you're getting the best of the atmosphere and uncomfortable flavor of a true H.P. Lovecraft story.

Shadow of the Comet (Win + Linux) is the tale of a young British photographer out to capture a one-of-a-kind comet passing over an isolated New England town of Illsmouth. He discovers that the last person to attempt this spent the rest of his life in a high-security lunatic asylum. Soon, he'll also discover why… In Prisoner of Ice (Win + Mac + Linux) an indirect sequel to Shadow of the Comet, you're just another officer aboard the HMS Victoria - a military sub returning from a simple extraction operation. Just another run of the mill job, the target is safe and you're counting down the time till your shore leave. Little do you know, it's also a matter of time until you look straight in the eye of an ancient evil aboard.

Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice are terrifying 2D adventure games that received critical acclaim for successfully capturing the unique atmosphere of tales like "At the Mountains of Madness", "The Dunwich Horror", "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" and, of course, "The Call of Cthulhu". Whether you're a Lovecraft fan, or just searching for the right excuse to discover the legend - these are stories you have to experience.

Heed the call of Cthulhu in Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice, available now - DRM-free on GOG.com!

Erich_Zann: Try Anchorhead if you're not cosmically repulsed by text adventures, it's up to par.

Ichwillnichtmehr: Thank you for informing me about this game, I'll take a look.
My pleasure.
I'll also add the RPG The Legacy to the list of awesome lovecraftian games, with a more pulp streak.

Erich_Zann: they nailed something half-way between the all-out pulp "let's machinegun Cthulhu down" of Arkham Horror and the actual Lovecraft material
Myeah, "half way", you're being generous. They nailed perfectly dr who or indiana jones, but it's still, for me, one of the least lovecraftian games to have capitalized on that name.

Not that it's a bad adventure game in itself. But relating it to Shadow of The Comet is hard. And playing it after it, expecting another lovecraft-feeling game, leads to a pretty awkward impression. Like stairs ending one step before you expected...
Praise the Great Old Ones! These are going onto the shelf right away for worship. Thank you very much for finally securing the rights to these!

Considering your nick, it's not entirely surprising that you know a fair bit about Lovecraftian games. :)

Crosmando: You didn't even mention the best Lovecraft story of them all, The Shadow Out of Time.
And The Whisperer In Darkness.
This one should please the Lovecraft fans.
Always wanted to play these two!
Thank you, Team GOG!

Wow! I don't think I ever heard about those games (but when they were released I probably didn't yet know who Lovecraft is, so I may just have forgotten it ...), but as a Lovecraft fan, I will definitley buy them. :)
Cool stuff! I remember them being... not as good as other adventure games, but it's still great to have these pieces of gaming history with us :D
Cool. Never heard of them, but as a big Lovecraft fan, I'm gonna hve to get them sooner or later. They actually look also really nice.
