Punching above your level.

Ruin of the Reckless, a punishing, melee-focused roguelike with swift moves and neat grooves, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 15% launch discount.

Eternity ain't that bad a deal if you can spend it blazing through a randomly generated tower, punching adorable creepers out of your way. Sure, reaching the top is the ultimate prize, but the equipment you pick up, the moves you pull off, and the gleeful destruction you deliver are truly their own rewards.

Grab the OST for some addictive tunes, or go for the Collector's Edition Art Pack, if you want a behind-the-scenes look at the game's lovely pixel art.

The 15% discount will last until May 3, 2:00 PM UTC.

Watch the trailer.

More pixel art roguelike. I think I'll go grab the popcorn and enjoy.
Another game to put on my blacklist. :D
Just watching the trailer for this game really hurt my eyes, with all of the weird flashing and things going on.
Is the guy swinging some kind of yoyo around to hit enemies?

I seriously don't understand what this game is supposed to be, and it looks terrible.

Well that one guy that picks the games that get released is probably happy.
I don't think it's for me though.
Sounds like the name of a Sid and Marty Krofft show.
Is this game similar to Ascendant or Asura?
After watching the trailer, the most important question is: Can I disable the screen shake? Apart from that, it's definitely pushing some buttons with me.

I'm guessing I'm probably just not the target audience for this game, but to me it looks incredibly ugly and confusing, the gameplay looks awful, and the music sounds horrible. Seeing that there is both an OST and a Collector's Edition Art Pack is... surprising, to say the least.

Definitely not for me, but I do hope that someone else will find this their GOTY.

Well, I can only say that TB, who is not really into roguelikes at all, was talking very favorably about it in their youtube podcast.

People are so hasty in their hatred about games they don't know anything about that so many times they just make fools of themselves. And sometimes they get it right. It's pretty random though. I can only imagine what this thread would have been like if a game like Undertale had gotten a day 1 release. Funny thoughts.

So my advice to people that don't like games they don't know and genres they won't ever test is basically to shut up and move on. But I understand that whining and hating it's too fun to resist.

(Yes, I'm making the popcorn useful)

The last screen shot shows the game's options, and there is a Screen Shake option listed there, so while I don't know whether it's possible to outright disable it (somebody should check), it should at least be possible to tweak it in some way (like lesson it or change it completely).

(I think it's rather clever to include a screen shot of the options screen, actually.)

Ha. My fault for only watching the trailer. But yeah, it says "Screen Shake: 8", so the assumption would be that you can adjust the intensity of the screen shake, hopefully all the way down to 0.

I hate the name, I hate the artstyle, I hate roguelites. GOG stop releasing trash.

I agree. I don't know why there is so much unnecessary hatred for the roguelike(lite) genre. Is it really so bad to have a type of game that can generate almost infinite replayability? Being able to jump right into action is one of the greatest advantages of roguelike games.

The difficulty can be very steep in games like Risk of Rain, Enter the Gungeon, and Sword of the Stars: The Pit. Plus, there are mods like "Oblige" that can take a popular game like Doom 2 and give it practically infinite amounts of maps to play.
