What if World War II was actually won by the Axis?

Rocket Ranger, a 1930s Sci-Fi movie-inspired action-adventure game about World War II and its unlikely jetpack-wearing hero, is available on GOG.com, for only $5.99.

Rocket Ranger takes us back to the war-shaken 1940s, as the Axis built a base on the moon and plan to use a mysterious substance called Lunarium to reduce people's intelligence. However, in the 21st Century time travel has been mastered, as have jet-propulsion backpacks, plus some cataclysmic weaponry and advanced code-breaking equipment. Thus, you are sent some special equipment from the future to change the result of the war. Use this technology to find five rocket ship parts and destroy the moon base! Action sequences linked by cinematic animations set the scene for this Cinemaware classic. There's also a strategic element, as you move your spies around to gain information and avoid detection, and decide how much Lunarium to use at each stage of the game. Action sequences include hand-to-hand combat with an Axis guard, and flying through the air shooting either hordes of enemy planes or the Zeppelin itself.

Strap on a jet engine to your back and blast off for 16-bit Amiga glory in Rocket Ranger, for only $5.99 on GOG.com!

yyahoo: This is the third Amiga game to be released on GOG. But the only Amiga games at this time that have been and will continue to be released are from Cinemaware, who have their own proprietary Amiga emulation.

Tarm: I'm sooo hoping for GOG to make a deal with Cinemaware that have Cinemaware doing their emulation magic on other publishers games for GOG to sell.
I wonder how widely compatible it is. As I understand it, fully compatible emulation of the Amiga is quite a bit of work to complete. It's possible that the emulator was only designed far enough to support their own software.

Telika: One of those gamres that i have simply played too much.

Out of curiosity, do you still have to check the amounts of required lunarium for international travels, in that version ?
I was wondering the same thing. How will it be handled in the GOG version?

The original Amiga version came with a really cool decoder wheel/copy protection device. Entering in the wrong amount of Lunarium penalized you which was clever.

That would be great. All in all we have EA was on the market on that time so likely they still own rights of at least some of their Amiga games
So which emulator does GOG use for Amiga games?

Cinemaware's proprietary emulator.

When you press SPACE - you get appropriate table.
This was one of the games that I used to salivate over the ad for it in the Atari ST mags of the time but never got to play it.

I wonder what the story is with this and Dave Stevens' Rocketeer comic?

I doubt there's a "story". They're both based on sci-fi serials from the 30s, 40's, and 50's, particularly Commando Cody:

"Be first to comment" ... Hah! The Cake is a lie! ;)

Concerning Rocket Ranger, never heard of it, but the screenshots look very nice.

Yes I'm wondering the same. Also if Cinemaware wants to keep developing this emulation project.

tburger: I'm here, I'm here - where else should I be ? :-P

But why don't they release classics at 12:00 CET anymore? It is so convenient time - I'm at work, have plenty of time on my hands and no one looks over my shoulder at the moment I turned on PC. [DAD, DAD! WHAT IS THAT? CAN I PLAY?]
GOG's trying their hardest to make your purchases here part of your quality family time, you should be thanking them. ;-P
This was my favorite Cinemaware game on Amiga 500 (but then I am not that familiar with some of their later games, like It Came From The Desert etc.).

I'm intrigued if there really will be a remastered edition of this.

DeadlyRamon: Very nice, I hope this is the first of many Amiga emulation games to get released on GOG; I'd like to see Fate: Gates of Dawn among them!

Then I wish GOG would contact Cloanto and make a deal to provide Amiga emulation for the tons of other great Amiga games that are otherwise in electronic limbo.
