We all know Rise of the Triad: Dark War for its impeccable sci-fi action. In the gripping narrative of the game, you, the player, become a member of the esteemed HUNT (High-risk United Nations Taskforce), a group of elite operatives. Your mission is to put to a halt deranged cult leader's sinister plot, as it could result in the deaths of countless innocent people. As you scout a secluded island, a perilous situation unfolds as enemy troops surround you, their guns blazing with intensity; and devastatingly, your escape route – the boat – lies in ruins, leaving you trapped. Yet, hope glimmers on the horizon, as a massive fortress monastery stands before you, offering the only chance to put an end to this madness and save humanity.

This adrenaline-fueled, high-stakes adventure now makes an incredible return, in a Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition. With this version, you’ll receive five playable characters, weapons, level editor, various multiplayer modes, all the perks that come with modern hardware, a brand new episode, and even more!

Now on GOG!
Why is this so expensive?
Okay, they fiddled with the engine and hacked together a new episode, but still... WTF?
For the (discounted) price of the new edition you could buy the also discounted classic 27 times right now.
Back then, I played the original to completion, with all secrets, easter eggs and you-name-it. And I don't really feel like revisiting the dated ROTT experience anyways. So I'm going to pass on this.

You can see it in the trailer at ~ 49s
Interesting, This version also comes with a gzdoom total conversion mod called "Return of the Triad", never heard about it before. Taking a look into it and looks pretty good, slightly different. Level wise seems to be richer. Apparently it is a new set of levels, new story. It is played outside the Ludicrous Edition, it is an standalone game.

The amount of content in this release is big, not mentionng the gzdoom mod. Or the editor. I expect a lot of new fan campaigns and levels for this version. Or I wish it.

What I´d like to know is if the old fan made content is compatible with this version. I guess it is, but no sure. Anyways I remember searching content for the DOS version in the past and I only found what is already released in the Ludicrous Edition.

Understandable because Doom conquered the world in that regard
Released exactly 10 years after the remake? Was this intentional?
Even if there are improvements and a new level, I don't feel like paying for the same game a third time. I think I'll stick to the old versions.
I might snag it if it ever drops to ten or below. Now had this been an enhanced version of the Blake Stone duology, I might be singing a different tune.
Does this version include the old demo levels? Those were different from the full game levels.
Those were kind of iconic levels, at least to me.

How long will the 20% discount last?
Oh, my bad... it's already in anounce.

Yes, the shareware levels, including the Deluxe Edition extra levels are included.
This game is starting to have as many editions and remakes as System Shock.

I guess I need to play this game (and the remake) at some point, but I forget what game this is. Was this the Duke3D-like game with the odd Super Mario platform jumping, and hunting for coins Mario-style? I played the shareware demo version of such game back in the day, it felt odd and I preferred the shoot'em up action of Duke3D, Quake and such...
Nice, but not really interested in going through 15 hours of MP40 going PLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPL RHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRH PFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPFPLRHPF....
again.

No reason to ever bring out anything else because of the infinite ammo. Well, you can carry one launcher weapon with limited ammo... Wolf 3D gets a pass, but in 1994, after Doom even, gameplay this monotonous is not really engaging.

I finished it once and have honestly no desire to ever play again.

The best thing with this new version is, that you eyes with not fall out (Fallout?) because of the pixelated things in the background.

Finally you can see where and who you're enemies really are. Ra-ta-ta-ta-ta! Bam-bam-bam!

Yes, it's that game, although I'd rather call it a Wolf3D-like game.
RooT was made with the Wolf3D engine, a heavily modified version of that engine, but that same engine with all of its constraints. It's Wolf pushed to the limit, which is not quite Duke.
