Old World is a revolutionary historical strategy game where you lead your dynasty over generations of rule against rival kings and queens. Wage massive wars, manage your court, and build a dynasty — or watch your empire crumble to dust.

Its latest DLC Wonders and Dynasties is now available on GOG with a -10% discount that lasts until January 18th!

It introduces 30 brand new ways of starting your game with the addition of new Dynastic leaders – each empire has received new leaders and starting conditions. Play as the dictator Sulla to leverage your unique dictator trait, as Khufu to construct endless wonders with the help of his wonder cost reduction, or as Nebuchadnezzar to quickly control large amounts of territory and forge a massive empire in the early game.

Moreover, eight new wonders of the ancient world add new and unique modifiers to your empire. Generate free specialists with the Jerwan Aqueduct, become the trade capital of the world with the Al Khazneh, or spawn an endless army of swordsmen with the Colosseum.

Expect 100+ new dynasty related events, 21 new Character Traits, 120 new historical characters, and more!

Old World - Wonders and Dynasties, now on GOG!
Hmm, the price, man! That of a new game, I'd have expected the better half of it. Aimed at die-hard fans?
I love Old World, but the departure in pricing from other DLCs has been a bit shocking. Apparently it was a decision by the publisher (according to a conversation on the game's Discord).
Side note from a second class ( aka Gog ) customer :

@Hooded Horse

Why is the " complete edition " bundle is on sale ( 30% off , the new DLC included ) on .... and not on Gog ?

Not explicitly ragging on the game. I am curious if design choices are from a prefabricated kit or are developers eager to be derivative on purpose?

Not that it began with Age of Wonders 3, but these type of games all look identical. Not sure why so many games in the past 8 years or so, seem to make copies of 1 design.

Guess media is in a slump in general.

They don't?
But they do all target a certain hardware spec/performance range which places constraint on maximum detail.
But I'm going to wager you just can't tell a hex-gridded 4x from a hex-gridded 4x.
Not.....sure.....if.....serious? >_>

Care to add anything to actually disagree?
high rated
How about adding the Linux version to GOG?

There was definitely a trend started by Civilization 5 (even reaching the colors used in the user interface by many games). However, I think Old World stands out for its beautiful look and interface over the rest of current 4X strategy games.

Thanks. Maybe I will look into it as a bundle, when the dlc stuff wraps up.

This reminds me a lot of my youth. I had a games magazine with me in school and someone who had a bit of contact with games but certainly not a lot (and certainly no experience with Civilization besides its existence) saw the test of Master of Magic. The comment was something on the lines of "just the same as Civilization". No amount of explanation attempts could move that statement.
Yes, all turn-based games will have some superficial similarities to the completely inexperienced in the domain. No, they are certainly not the same. Just as not all wines are the same because they are just fruit juice predigested by a fungus.

I had not noticed that a Linux version is available to DRM users, but players of DRM-free games are limited to the Windows or Mac OS builds. This is a very low move by Hooded Horse here.

My bad, going through old posts I realized that Mohawk Games are the ones who decided to skip the Linux build on GOG, not their publisher.

These modern hex games still look cookie cut. That was my point. As a genre, there is little distinction in goals. So besides looking a little different, these games often seem stale to me. If I ask the goal of all these games, it usually is boiled down to conquer everything. Asking why, usually not a consideration.

If this is not that type of game and there is more depth, good. Would be a great to have deep concepts.

As an example: Have entire circles of friends and family, with characters that age. Watch as an empire moves with the characters that created it.

I still have an interest in the cookie cut games from time to time. But rare is anything original. After 40 years of gaming, most games keep recycling the same stuff from the 80s, but with flashy graphics.

They play NOTHING alike. At all!
