GOG.com: Compete in online "battle royale" action
Well...I guess this will be one of those release threads that get locked, after two days of "friendly conversations" over the nature of DRM.

;)
Me confused. Single Player or NOT Single Player? Sounds like a multi-player-only titel for me. Please alaborate. Thx.
The game has an offline mode you can play with bots, but otherwise it is a multi-player focused title, like the Unreal Tournament series, so no campaign or story mode.

Otherwise, I'm glad for more Nicalis titles showing up, the ones I really want to see are Tiny Barbarian DX, Castle in the Darkness, and Code of Princess EX.

SCPM: The game has an offline mode you can play with bots,...
Thanks. If the bots are good and playing is still fun like in "Quake 3" or "Unreal Tournament" I can live with that.

Ah, nice thanks for the clarification here - I almost thought GoG was trolling me with this one heh.

But now I get it - I hate being the guy poo-pooing a release in thread and was almost there, but knowing there's an offline bot mode and it's from a Dev that's been trying to support GoG and sort of "testing the waters" with a few releases here and there, I feel a bit better about it.

At least you could play the full Hitman game and that was removed for having extra content online only, this is the entire game

So another online only game. Wow, really focusing on core values!

What's the issue? The game has offline bots. You were probably not nitpicking at GOG over releasing games like Mobile Force, quake 3, and Unreal Tournament. Quake Wars is a primary online focus game I would love DRM free because playing with bots is fun.

Wow, I can play an empty vacuous game made for online only with some bots, amazing how lucky for me. Yes, I would say exactly the same about those other games, and other ones.

Hitman is a single player game at his core (Hitman 1-2-3-4 and Absolution of course are, but the new releases are too they just use always online to lock content that in the old games were unlocked from the beginning). The "extra content" of Hitman were everything you could unlock in the game (that should have been offline from the beginning, even more so on gog), not just the multiplayer mode.

Not sure what this NecroLand lock but for what I undestand it is just a bad multiplayer game with no content at all both in multiplayer and in the single player mode with bots.
I'm not pro multiplayer games with drm, but gog was clear about that for a long time, gog will allow the multiplayer to be under a drm, so I don't think NecroLand is against gog principles like Hitman was.

If you played Hitman gog release the save file was not even compatible with the online version of the game, you could not unlock anything in the single player campain, so it was against gog principles.

Quakes and Unreal Tournaments are classics and you can can still get the mods for them and dev tools for them.

Idk guys, I think I am one of the vocal anti-DRM people here but I don't think this game is nearly as bad as others. I know that doesn't exactly serve as a ringing endorsement, but I will explain and I really do feel this isn't a true offender like so many other games.

So to me, offline with bots can be a full-fledged singleplayer game (despite it technically being a multiplayer "mode" entirely, as it were). Bots are key to it being full-fledged.

Explanation:
This is with the idea that the bots are programmed somewhat well, it is not just an afterthought with no resources invested. This game passes that test, a test which sadly many games fail since devs/pubs refuse to let us play solo with bots. Note too that I think this is distinct from that Crysis Wars online game that is here on GOG. In that, the player can technically go into the gameworld solo but there are no enemies (because you need to be online to play against people). To me, that is worse than a game with bots, though both are preferable from a DRM-free standpoint compared to an entirely online game, one in which the player can't even get in an empty gameworld by themselves and no bots. Does my idea resonate with anyone else?

And do I see correctly with NecroLand that the online multiplayer is just with internet connection, no client requirement or other third-party requirements?

Explanation:
While not ideal, that is also far better than most games on this store (including an old game like Aliens vs Predator if I am remembering correctly...how the hell does a game from the time of the "Y2K crisis" require a client invented a decade and a half later?? (Fortunately the better version of Aliens vs Predator is available at another, purer DRM-free store, but I digress). I have argued in past topics that online mode is still equivalent to DRM from a preservation aspect, but this is more akin to "play by email" than it is Hitman Lame of the Year online edition (which I still would like an explanation for how it was allowed to release here and assurance our existing games won't introduce similar "convenient" "features" in updates).

I do not know a lot about the design of this game but it would be nice if there was a way for several users to play offline together...be it hotseat/splitscreen, or LAN. Is LAN possible? I do think it would be an improvement from a DRM-free standpoint to have additional multiplayer options not requiring external internet.

All that said, I still maintain there is too much outrage over this. To me, a game I consider full-fledged with bots is way better to see here than the League of Legends tie-ins which directly promote DRMed games, GWENT being bundled with Thronebreaker, even the recent Dying Light "free items" some of which promote a DRMed game/company.

If this developer honestly wants to be on GOG and supports their game, I think maybe we can nicely ask for updates to add features we want, and save ire for the worse offending releases.
