Monkey Island™ 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge™, a remaster of one of the greatest Lucasfilm adventures, is available now on Windows - DRM-free on GOG.com with a 20% launch discount.

Monkey Island™ 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge™ is often considered the greatest Lucasfilm adventure game ever made. In-game spitting contests, and the "Ron Gilbert - Tim Schafer" duo's trademark humor are only part of the reason why. This special edition is the most complete, definitive way to experience the game, and the reason for that is choice. One more, the team at Lucasfilm overhauled their baby completely: you can play the game with all-new high resolution art, voice-overs by the original Monkey Island cast, a renewed soundtrack, and a modern interface. Do you have to? Nope! The original experience is just one-click away - toggle between original pixelated glory and its modern reimagining at whim. Or you can pick and choose your features. If you prefer original graphics with voice-overs (or if you'd like to hear Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman chat about their game for a few hours) that's no problem at all - that's just how remakes should be done.

Swashbuckling and misadventure ensue in Monkey Island™ 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge™, available now - DRM-free on GOG.com. The 20% launch discount will last for one week, until Thursday, March 26, at 1:59 PM GMT.
a no brainer for me. thanks gog dudes and dudettes.

installer takes about 5 minutes to actually show up after clicking the file though. anyone know why? I'm on windows 8. game runs fine but still. I'm curious. I have a few other gog installers that behave the same way. most start right up.

It's likely that that's caused by Windows' User Account Control measure. I've seen that happen on Vista and 7 where UAC was enabled but I am not sure if it's the same thing with Windows 8 as I personally don't use it all that often myself :)
Is there any chance of The Curse of Monkey Island or Escape from Monkey Island being released on GOG? Even though these two games never got "Special Edition" remakes, I would still love to see the original versions of them on GOG, and I'm sure lots of other people would, too.

I think DoubleFine is planning on working on remastering those after DOTT Remastered so we will see them here next year

But the original version of Grim Fandango still hasn't been released on GOG (only the Remastered version), so it doesn't make me very optimistic about seeing the original versions of DOTT, or Monkey Island 3 & 4, on GOG. :(

Sorry I meant Double Fine is working on remastering the rest of Monkey Island. Knowing that, Disney will likely only give GOG the newer remastered versions when they come out

That makes me optimistic about the re-mastered versions being released on GOG, but not the original versions (based on Grim Fandango Remastered not including the original version). I wish they would release both.

Yeah, that is what I was afraid of.

Curse will be an interesting one. Given how well its 640x480 graphics have aged, it'll be interesting to see whether they just do an uprezzed retrace or insist on whacking it with the ugly stick so it matches the previous two remasters.

Either way, as long as someone makes a script analogous to the Ultimate Talkie Edition Builders for extracting the original resources for ScummVM, It'll have my thumbs-up.

I probably won't buy it though. I still have my original Curse CDs, the graphics are already fine, the music's already great quality, it's already a talkie, and it's not as if I need to keep track of a No-CD crack for ScummVM to make play convenient.

This definitely is my favorite adventure game of all time. Would get it right now if it wasn't my third or fourth time buying it. :D Summer sale will hopefully help me out.

Source on that?

They never had the intentions of releasing the original Grim fandango and probably don't have the rights to do it. A little thing some should really get over already.

There's no source on that. Tim Schafer just said he'd like to remaster all the LucasArts adventures, that's all. They've not even confirmed a Full Throttle SE, which is the likeliest of the games to happen next and the last LA-Schafer-game left to remaster once DOTT is finished.

Here's a source in which Schafer says that he wants to preserve LA games. He doesn't call out Monkey Island specifically though

Also I just remembered reports saying 80% of the DOTT remaster was done before LA was bought, so we should see that here sooner rather than later.
I'd love to see Escape From Monkey Island remastered in the same way as Grim Fandango.

Same here. That was a hilarious game stuck in a wonky interface.
