Chess-like strategy, a puzzle of war.

Massive Assault and Massive Assault: Phantom Renaissance, two games of turn-based tactics and deception from the creators of World of Tanks, available now on Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 50% launch discount!

Massive Assault is, first and foremost, pure strategy. While it may look like your regular RTS, the Massive Assault series is a game of precise turn-based tactics across hexified battlefields. Your success will not depend on your reaction time or clicks per minute, you will never go into battle uncertain of its outcome. Everything is consistent and laid out on the table from the start - it's your job to make the most of these few rules to deceive and outmaneuver your opponents. The series has been described as a chess-like strategy, a puzzle of war.

Massive Assault: Phantom Renaissance (aka: Domination) is an all-around improvement on the first game and a continuation of the story - it includes an expanded single-player campaign with greater tactical options, more units with better AI, and a much more graphically spectacular war to behold.

Outsmart and deceive your enemies in Massive Assault and Massive Assault: Phantom Renaissance, now on GOG.com! The 50% launch discount for both titles will last for one week, until Tuesday, February 10 at 10:59 AM GMT.
Not my genre, but seems like cool stuff!
Can anyone please tell me if there is a difference and what is the difference between this games and Battle Worlds Kronos? Looks very identical in gameplay.

>TWO GAMES OF WARGAMINGS PAST IS NOW ON SALE.

I dont know what to say, either I am in hell or heaven.

When did this happen?

CarrionCrow: More games, and good looking turn-based strategy games at that?

Sounds closer to heaven than the alternative. ;)
True but considering when I read this news, I just finished playing WG's biggest game so far World of Tanks. I got scared and confused and happy.

First of all, it has totally different "territory policy" - in Battle Worlds units have quite big space to move/act/whatever. In Massive Assault there is always the crowd near the boarders of countries, and you're fighting to break the line and take some units inside enemy territory (it's crucial, because after breaking the boarder and providing unit(s) inside country of enemy is no longer generating funds (only have one-shot donation for guerilla), until enemy will get rid of your units (or lose his country :P). In my opinion, it's generally easier to learn how to play in Massive Assault, however it's quite hard game (I'm writing basing on my experience with retail version). Generally, Battle Worlds share some similarities with Battle Isle, while Massive Assault has rather its own, well, quite original style.

I've got however some other question - why there is only "single-player" mentioned in both games description? I remember, that in Massive Assault there was multiplayer (online and hot-seat). Is it absent in GOG version?
These are turn based? They look RTS.
Yes, they're turn-based strategies. Funny thing, I remember that once upon a time they've advertised it, that it's "look like RTS" :)
The games look fun, but I've never heard about them..

EDIT: ah also.. Massive Assault PR = Domination

Hot-seat is still present, I think.

For the multiplayer over internet, well, I don't know. I did only play the demo of this game.

The MA series is somehow similar to Warlords series, where every next version was and evolution, so that mean, that they were bit "better" the the older ones, with more options, units, upgrades, tech-tree, better graphics, etc.

The first MA has only two fractions, but this doesn't mean, that it's simple to master.

Galactic Assault (3rd version of Massive Assault) had the most fractions (four if I remember correcty), so it is somehow the most complete game of the trilogy.

For starters, it is the best, to start with the first one. And many said, the best games in the series is the first one.

There was/is also a Network series of Massive Assault, that is meant for multiplayer (over internet) with live players:

Never played these, because I personaly don't like to play with people, whom I don't know over the internet, just with friend/family, especially older titles over LAN or hotseat and/or againt computer.

Here are some reviews (IGN, but you can find on other review sites aswell):

There is online multiplayer but since it requires a key in order to use, we cannot offer it at this time. If and when we get the proper keys for the multiplayer portion of both games, we'll be more than happy to support the online multiplayer function for MA and MA: Phantom Renaissance.
Instabuy for sure.

You mean that the developer doesn't want to give you keys?
A lot good OLD games recently - thank you very much GOG!

They're single player everywhere you look :)

Oh OK. The way you said it, it implied that the developer/publisher, for some reason, didn't give you serials.
