Crime for some fun.

Mafia II and Mafia III are now available, DRM-Free on GOG.com. Each of the three Mafia games is 50% off individually or 66% off if you purchase them all together (the Family special, if you will). Offer lasts until April 05, 6pm UTC.

Mafia II tells the highly cinematic story of Vito and Joe, two Empire Bay friends in the 50s, who start out thick as thieves. Also extortionists. Sometimes assassins. All around wise guys. As their status inside the family grows, so will their troubles, requiring them to shoot, race, punch, or simply outlast everything the criminal life throws at them.

Mafia III introduces Lincoln, a hardened Vietnam veteran who thinks he's earned himself a fresh start, away from his criminal past. But life has other plans and those include betrayal, fierce gunfights, and brutal action, as he's forced to carve himself a path to the top of organized crime through the sweaty, treacherous swamplands of New Bordeaux.
Boost his firepower and expand upon his dramatic story with the DLC packs Sign of the Times, Stones Unturned, Faster, Baby!, and Family Kick Back Pack.
Or simply go for the Deluxe Edition, which includes the whole lot of them.

Bought the 3rd one with all 4 DLCs. Installed the DRM free version (i.e. Non-Galaxy). On launch, game phones home, which I denied using my personal firewall. The Weapons-DLC is not activating, but that's aight. Game runs great and looks beautiful (gtx970 here). Saw a barfing man with a crocodile rubber mask on the street driving by. Am happy. Looking forward playing this tomorrow.

Fps and settings please? 970 user here, too.
Excited to see these games here at last. Not enough money to get em both now, but got the first one. As far as the discussions about the publishers making it DRM-free, they must've been seeing enough returns when they returned the original Mafia to think that it was worth it to bring the others. So I'm glad for that.

TT_TT_TT_TT: i have not tested the gog version yet.
Steam version runs way better now than after release now. Playing it in 4K with some Reshade and such and runs really smooth

NoNewTaleToTell: Interesting, when did the performance improve? I had tried it in early November of last year, shortly after a major update I think? Anyway I got a refund on it of course, so I've not kept up with it getting updates.
sadly i dont remember when the performance increased as i took a few weeks breaks between any session of the game and then once it was just running smoother - totally can't tell when

For Mafia II i am really glad they brought it here. But Mafia III is really not worth it.The only reason it is here is that is has sold poorly on Steam and they just want to milk it as much as possible.Disgusting to be honest.Cheers

NoNewTaleToTell: Can anyone confirm whether or not GOG's version of Mafia 3 performs better than Steam's version? The Steam version was basically unplayable for me even though my computer more than met its requirements.
"unfortunately" I've got a fairly beasty machine GTX1070, and it runs really nicely.

tinyE: PARTY!

Wanted Mafia 2 for years but I kept hearing the DRM made is a total fucking mess.
So TinyE, I've never played the Mafia games before...

What are they like? Is it pretty much like playing a game version of The Good Fellas or another gangster film?

I know some spoilers on the story of the series, but what I don't know is how good the gameplay is and if you're more of a good guy or a bad guy. I never know with mafia titles.

I've played a lot of GTA before, but I have a feeling it's not like that (or is it?). At least, it's probably not as open world....

They come off like GTA but really aren't anything like them. The game is pretty streamlined, which isn't so bad because TBH, while big, the city isn't that exciting so you won't want to do much more than the missions.

The period (1930s) is very big in the game. Cars are slow and clunky. ALSO, you HAVE TO BE A GOOD DRIVER. :P Speeding, running lights, hitting pedestrians can all more or less end a mission. Expect lots of long driving from point (a) to point (b) during missions.
Shoot outs are also realistic. Guns have a hell of a kickback, and your ammo is very limited, but so are your enemies' ammo so shootouts sometimes end in the bad guy running out of bullets and coming at you with fists/knife.

I don't know what else to say. I'd wait for someone more eloquent to post.

Have you played The Getaway games on the Ps2? Because the Mafia games are actually really similar to those games, much more so than the GTA series.

Djaron: Couldnt resist, sorry...
She wuz hot back in the day. No doubt she's channeling the WIdow Cobain there. Both of them out of the spotlite now.
Nice releases! And hopefully a solid portent of things 2 (K) come?

How are these by the way? I had always heard rave reviews of the first game - the reviews here seem to mostly indicate these stack up (though maybe not quite the same as the original).

What? The only DRM was Steam and it wasn't a mess. You heard wrong.

How come the dlc weapons are not activating? I hope it's not because you denied internet access to the game, that would be a turn off, if the game required to phone home in order to make dlc work.
