Welcome back to the family.

Mafia is now available DRM-free and only on GOG.com.
The action/adventure classic that you really shouldn't refuse, finally returns. Embark on a celebrated open-world thriller and follow Tommy Angelo's rise (or fall, depending on your perspective) to a perilous life of high-stakes crime in 1930s America. The city of Lost Heaven is your playground, as long as you don't let the police catch you in the act, wise guy.

NOTE: This rerelease of Mafia has an edited soundtrack and does not include any licensed music.
Never played the game, and didn't notice it much on its original release to be honest, but i'm glad that GOG finally released a PC classic, and one of that Magnitude!

Thanks gog.

Vythonaut: That makes two of us; actually, i found it to be very simplistic in terms of physics (maybe i've been spoiled by Grand Prix Legends [1998, Papyrus], a racing sim that i already have put hundreds--if not thousands--of hours before Mafia was released back then) but nevertheless, i enjoyed the race due to the fact that it was the only game that featured a race with 1930's cars back then.

jozinho: Exactly! Where else can you race those kinds of cars? I'd love a sim focusing on that. Gentlemen in scarves and goggles and everything.
I guess The Saboteur - set in the '40s - has some races? But in any case, sounds like a good game that could build a very enthusiastic niche audience and be crowdfunded!
Love this game but I have the disc version which I bought back on day of release and it is good as new. Literally to get it working on Windows 10 64 Bit I just grabbed the 1.2 patch which updates the game top 1.3 (option with this patch to make race easier) and then used a NOCD and it is working just fine.

It is one of those unfortunate things when licenses run out with music, happened on both GTA Vice City & San Andreas so owning those on PS2 & PC disc means that the tracks can't be taken away.

On the flip side Mafia was taken off Steam a good few year ago now and hasn't been available since then digitally, the orchestral score on it is excellent so the music that has been taken away shouldn't detract from the experience to much. Be thankful that GOG have managed to bring this title back on sale after so many years missing.

If you aren't happy with the licensed music being removed go buy it on eBay or wherever and play it that way.

Nice release that is well worth owning, I will grab it from here eventually as who knows with the next itteration of Windows the disc version may not work at all no matter what you do!!

Here's hoping that Heavy Metal : Fakk 2 will land here alongside other GOD Games titles like Nocturne.

Finally not Russian version.
Sweet! Thanks, GOG.
Awesome GOG thank you. Now I need some money so I can buy this and two other games I've been dying to get :)

Back then there wasn't any (for all i know) but nowadays, check out the followind links:

- 1937 Mod for rFactor (was also converted for GTR2, spend quite a lot of time with that version and it was good): http://www.virtualr.net/1937-grand-prix-for-rfactor-released

- 1955 F1 for Grand Prix Legends (highly recommended / beware: for hardcore simmers, steep learning curve): http://www.racedepartment.com/threads/grand-prix-legends-1955-f1-mod-preview-trailer-released.129726/

Cheers! ;)

edit: I forgot to mention Cranks & Goggles, a top down racing game. http://www.cranksandgoggles.com/ Still waiting for the GOG version (maybe it won't happen soon) or at least a version directly from the developer that doesn't require Steam (according to the developer, it may happen in the future, not sure when/if though). Here's the forum thread for it.

ShadowOwl: Well, it appears to be pretty simple to put the missing tracks back into the game as there are obvious dummy files in *Mafia\sounds\MUSIC: https://i.imgur.com/Mnt6lHg.png

Time to get to work! ;)
But what about us who don't own the game on CD? :/
Can't find any place to buy a retail version either.
Another great game for my library!

Thanks GOG :D

Lobuno: Again, this is the music of the game mainly:

Maybe the bulk of Mafia's music comes from that, but many key moments of the game are designed to stir the player's emotions by playing additional music which beautifully melds with the story & the gameplay, such as this one:

and this one:

and this one:

Players who only ever play the GOG release with its butchered music will have no idea what that feels like.

I guess it's just a matter of time before we get some kind of unofficial music package.

Yep, i have the retail version too. Got it from a friend about a year ago but haven't been in the mood to play Mafia yet. :D
But it's good to know that there's a patch, i hope it will also work on WIN 7 32 bit.

GOG.com: NOTE: Mafia does not contain any licensed music - only the game's original soundtrack.
So only half the game is here.

For me, I mean. The classic jazz soundtrack, linked to the various town areas, were very central to my enjoyment. It's a sub-par GTA clone is you remove the setting, era, atmosphere, and this music was very important in defining these.

(And the copyright is a surprise to me, I would have expected these recordings to have fallen into public domain since then...)
