To be fair, if GoG would have a age verification system that is accepted by the authorities in germany it could sell adault only stuff in germany too.

Probably because they couldn't get it on... you know, that major game store service. But I agree that making a game intended for adult only audiences and then toning it down is certainly not in the spirit of its original art direction. Sounds more like a compromise, but if that makes some people happy, then fine. I still think both versions should have been released at the same time on GOG in particular, since they've shown not to be prudes.

This was perfect, flick though to 15:10 he explained a lot of it and makes a great case for M edition. I've played the regular one and im getting this one. Love me some Cthulhu horror and they had to do something to get the Mature rating it was AO at release so it tanked its sales. Who knows maybe they will drop a content patch or DLC later on but this is the version that can showcase the game and what they can do.

To be clear this is not censored by GOG or by their request it was a choice by the developer, this has nothing to do with GOG at all.

I can see it without problem when logged in, offered at -33% discount from 16.79 EUR (side note, M edition is offered for 14.99 EUR base price on both stores, they did cut the price a little when removing content).

Definitely geolocation issues. I think this kind of content is hard banned in PRC, steam may be in position to either not sell this game to you, or not sell any game ever in the whole region. That's no-brainer decision for a business. Steam (or GOG) is not the one who will be fighting that battle, and I can hardly blame them, the risk is just not worth it.

It certainly looks like a compromise, but I doubt that it'll make many happy, most (I think) will be displeased by the toned down version. I mean all this game offers is lewd content and they stripped most of it from the game. :P

The question remains, why limit the GOG version to Lust from Beyond: M Edition? A patch with explicit content, an activation code (as happened with Mortal Kombat for the Sega Genesis) or an uncensored standalone version seems logical, doesn't it?

I don't know, beyond seeing or not seeing explicit sexual content in a videogame, the decision to cut the title, at least to me, seems to be to avoid hurting susceptibilities. And that's ridiculous if the product is aimed at a very specific sector of consumers.

I don't understand, they censor video games but not movies with high sexual content on some cable or TV channels. The same with the censorship that is being done to some works of art. It's ridiculous.

The uncensored version is already on Steam and was there since it's inception. Here it's to be able to sell it on console. But that doesn't explain why not offering the uncensored version on Gog too.
I think it's mostly laziness; the M version is the latest and shiniest version that they offered to console and multiple stores including Gog. They didn't bother making a Gog version of the non-M one.

If it's laziness, it's even worse. :(

Well he makes the case for the exposure part, but he also says there is not much there for the game if you take out the "sex horror". He even recommends getting the regular Version.
Obvously not a great game for the streamer but it's also to be expected if they cut out the parts that made the game(It probably hurts it more than the Anime games here because it's integral to the plot.).
I'm not sure if modern bland survival horror is a good show case.
Anyways I don't mind the M Version existing, I just mind that the normal one is not sold here and the way the devs go about it.
No skin of my back though, I don't need to buy it.

Releasing two different version marketed at different target groups doesn't sound very much like "censorship". And clearly explaining the product, as the sales page do, is the exact opposite of "deliberately misleading their customers".

Only one version was released on GOG. That's exactly everyone's point. And while I agree it's not unreasonable to expect people to actually read the product page before buying, "M Edition" is definitely a misleading title that implies it has more mature content than the original version, not less.

I'd never heard of this game before, but now I'd like to get it. Lovecraftian horror combined with Hellraiser-style sexual sadism and body horror sounds quite scary. But that's why I'm not getting the toned-down version. I'm not the "wider audience" they're trying to sell to. I don't expect the nudity will be titillating, I expect it will be disturbing. There are plenty of other Lovecraft games that are mysterious and atmospheric, this one sounds like it WAS unique in its theme, and that original vision is what I want to experience. I always try to favor GOG over Steam if it's an option, but if they're not going to give that option, they don't get my money. Assuming the Steam links posted above work, that's where I'll be taking my business for this particular title.

As I am against censorship I ain't buying this M edition unless it iether A gets a AO dlc thats free or very cheap or gets the AO stuff put back in as there is a older version of the game A.K.A a pc release that has the content.. Granted I might get it dirt cheap when its afew dollars on a deep discount if it doesn't get a publisher/dev official path/DLC for the AO content

After all I despise censorship .. Its the same reason I won't get the Sam and Max Remasters till dirt cheap similar scenario albeit with different content but still similar enough I bring this up as publishers ,devs and studio's will get very little from me when censoring even if its remaster censoring.. I will get other games from em at higher prices but not the censored ones
