I had to escape - the city was sticky and cruel.

Jalopy is now available DRM-free on GOG.com, 40% off until April 4, 5pm UTC.
Drive your wheezing, chugging Laika 601 Deluxe through the procedurally generated roads of 90s Germany, CSFR, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria or Turkey, and see how far you can get, either as an unassuming scavenger or a successful smuggler that no border patrol can hope to catch.
Together with several fixes and improvements, the full release features full translation into 17 additional languages, including French, German, Russian, Polish, Italian, Chinese, and more.

I don't usually like the reduced texture format games, unless there is really-really something very unique about them.
I think Jalopy might be one of the ones I like. It's a very acquired taste sort of situation.
My mom used to study in West Germany & visit East Side, and old Soviet Union... I've read Russian literature... My dad once gave me a mini Trabant, you know a miniature... I'm thinking one needs to have a strong curious mind or just like me, be into this funny, slightly bizarre stuff :) There is no other explanation I can find, why there is a big appeal for the game.

Going to be honest, not sure why anyone would want to head to Turkey.

Now the other way around, going to Germany in a soviet clunker, that would make more sense.

I dunno. The fact that there's an objective sort of seems to take away from the actual point of the game.
^^..seems this game is not for me, watched the trailer, read the infos and still..i don't really get it..seems to be a very basic sim with realy basic graphics
Crappy graphics for the game about one of the crappiest cars ever.
Makes perfect artistic sense, but still a huge no-no for the eyes.
wasn't this released a fair while ago here, like last year, Strange?

That wasn't the final version:

So ... the fact that there's an objective removes the game's objective???

mintee: this would prob be one of my guilty little pleasures, there's something relaxing about the minimalism of it

Vythonaut: I'd be a liar if i said this game isn't charming and from the little i've watched on YT, it definitely looks like a relaxing experience. Also the launch discount is awesome, i mean, it's just released after a (long) period of development and surely i wouldn't expect more than -10% off for now. Anyway, i can't justify spending any more money on games right now, otherwise this would be an insta-buy. Well, in the end i may give in and buy it before April, 4 -- who knows.. :P
ill have to watch some lets plays but if it can capture the feeling of bouncing around in that old truck clunker, listening to snatches of french songs on the radio from Kona then im all in. best part of that game, but if its stressful, like the short timers for gas and such then ill pass. :P

It's complicated.

Consider experiences like Sim Earth or a common flight simulator. There may be goals, but you set them. Why do you want to fly to Tokyo? You can say because you're flying cargo, but does that matter to the game? Not really. Not unless you specifically provide it with a scenario.

And even then, there is no consequence. You don't lose some money, you aren't prevented from doing it again, you don't even have to wait for it to repair.

In this, you're apparently a drug runner who is driving though several countries. What if I don't want to do that? What if I just want to drive?

It feels like someone lost an argument during the design phase and had to "give the game a goal", basically.

I got you, I was just word-playing with you.

Dogmaus: Ah the nostalgia. "Totally-not-a-Fiat-127".
Nostalgia, indeed...my second car ever was a "Fiat 127 Sport".
I love the idea.

But it sure is ugly for a game made for sightseeing and its first out of in-dev review ain't a saving grace either with its description of car handling; over sensitiveness and lack of proper saving.

I'll follow it to see what kind of (if) DLCs/Updates and/or sequels it might get since I dig the core idea.
