metricfun: Thanks for bringing this game here! So many great games coming here these last weeks (too many for my wallet :) ) Wishlisted.
you want to save cash ?

then gamersgate is a place, 2000 plus steam titles (drm loaded) the drm loaded games are promoted far too much, theres a special box with latest games, all steam keys

If you dont like steam then you can save a lot of money cause i thing in a few years GG be either completely gone or will only be selling DRM loaded. stuff, best thing for GG would become a steamoutlet cause keys dont take room on the disks.

And there are already too many DRM loaded game providers

Not sure I quite get where you're coming from (or where you're going) with that comment. I'm quite happy with Gog and will either be waiting before buying any game, or succumb and buy it now. Gog, right now, is offering me what I want. If I so desesperately want to save cash, I'll wait for a sale...
Could those of you who have already purchased or previously played this shed some light on certain aspects of the game please?

1.What's the combat like -- tactical depth and strategy, or mostly button-mashing?

2.What's the ultimate goal? Does the game have much story and a real ending, or is the emphasis on the gameplay and rogue-like mechanics? Do you start over at zero, each time you die?

3.Can you pick and customize your player character? Are there different starting classes, and can you customize the character's appearance?

4. And ultimately, do you feel it's worth the current price here at GOG? Is it enjoyable for a long time, or does the gameplay quickly grow repetitive?

Thanks in advance, to those who take the time to share some more info about the game. :)
Is there a Torgo card?

obviously you did not understood my reply: so i will explain listen carefully....

some one said that there was soo much GOOD games his wallet was getting empty
so i replied telling that if you want to save money as in NOT spending money
GG would be the place cause they mainly serve STEAM GAMES

here is the reply:

If you would have read that you would have known that i was referring to that....

i think you thought that i implied that the price on GOG are too high, i never said that, so its obvious you did not understood what i wrote

always make sure that you read carefully. cause now you imply that I complain about the prices on GOG being too HIGH
i will never say that the prices on GOG are too high, better read carefully next time, before causing a commotion.

I am PRO GOG, i clearly stated that GOG = the best....
and i clearly stated that i think its kind of ad that GG has become more and more an STEAM outlet.
Besides a price is something that usually is made up by or with some apporval of both parties, usually i think its the one who offer a game.

I hope this clarifies things so that we WONT get any misunderstandings
next time in case of any doubt as of what i or any other user might have replied with. please send them or me a PM so i can explain that.

I will never put down GOG, i only stated the truth that i am somewhat 'disappointed' in GG im am not disappointed with GOG , i hope this clears things up.

Always read a replie more then once , if you dont quite get it, this to avoid any misunderstandings.
Been in various english foras for more than a decade , never had any problem with users dont understanding what i reply with so.... in case of doubt send a nice PM to me or any user to prevent this.

Also been mod in several foras in the past (the fora closed so i am not modding anymore)
but I know what i say, unfortunately i cant vow for how a reply is being read and then interpreted by any user.

As a mod i always read all the posts if there were users having a quarrel, i never blamed the last one or the first one if they were using and swearing and calling names with diseases, i alway read the entire part , then i decide that both got a warning or both a 24 hour ban.
So please read my replies better, dont ever assume i tell crapt, as an ex-mod i know what to say.

Now i had to write this 'novel' to explain things because a person clearly missed out on what i replied with,.

regards

I had Kickstarted this and got my GOG key overnight. I've been playing it all morning (thanks horrible weather for giving me the day off work!) and I'm loving it. It's more fun than I expected it would be, though the graphics are a bit more intense than I expected for it, too. I hope they optimize a bit to drop them down to get more prospective buyers. My laptop chokes on a few loads (sometimes even on the merchant level loads; those could be menu-optioned away for lower-end computers).

1: So far, it's mostly button mashing, but there certainly is some depth and it probably gets further. Getting a shield from your deck is kind of critical to block/counter attacks. It feels sort of like a list distillation of the Prince of Persia combat.
2: Unclear yet, but you do certainly repeat levels to experience more. Cards you unlock have "tokens" on them that you have a chance of winning if you complete their mini-quests in a certain way (sometimes random chance which may be influenced by your other gear). A couple of them I've already notice are "quest chains" that, once unlocking that card's token, its reward is the next card in a sequence. Overall, the goal seems like it will be to defeat the jack, queen, and king of each of the game's four suits.
3: None of that. But your DECK you fully customize as you unlock cards. Everyone starts the same though.
4: I shall refrain from answering at this time, but I've already got about 4 hours of enjoyment out of it and feel that there will be a lot more.

I mostly agree what the other(s) said so far.

avatar
CharlesGrey: 1.What's the combat like -- tactical depth and strategy, or mostly button-mashing?
From a continental point of view with a rather clichéd perspective of American School drama, the combat is the nerdy, introverted brother of the Arkham Aslyum bully right at the last dance of the prom.

avatar
CharlesGrey: 2.What's the ultimate goal? Does the game have much story and a real ending, or is the emphasis on the gameplay and rogue-like mechanics? Do you start over at zero, each time you die?
The goal seems rather simple: Beat the dealer at his own game.
While simple the story is compelling as the dealer has a pleasant set of comments and dialogues that are amusing even after several hours of play. The deja-vu effect of him repeating the same limes is partially mitigated by the fact that the games are repetitive and the whole game doesn't even hid the fact, it works with it.
"Maybe you have been already here, these are just your memories you are reliving again and again" etc.
I haven't seen any negative consequences of dying yet, other than bloodstains on the carpet (which I have yet to see) and some belittling by the dealer.

avatar
CharlesGrey: 3.Can you pick and customize your player character? Are there different starting classes, and can you customize the character's appearance?
You can't customize much except from the cards in your deck, which can be gained and drawn (as loot) after different encounters.
You have equipment cards you pick beforehand that can be drawn as loot.
For example if you favour axes instead of swords you can fill up the equipment slots with axes and leave out swords.
You can set the deck of your encounters as well. The dealer might add a couple of cards but the majority of events are from your deck. So you can basically build your own adventure.

One "game" lasts about an half an hour. There are story driven quests, mostly based on luck and some combat encounters. Once you win in the last boss fight you get a few new cards, unlock the next "boss" to fight and maybe some other "goody" cards.

CharlesGrey: 4. And ultimately, do you feel it's worth the current price here at GOG? Is it enjoyable for a long time, or does the gameplay quickly grow repetitive?
I feel it's worth the price because it's exploring a new, unique concept that should be supported. If it gets repetitive it's my own fault because I chose the same cards in my deck so I won't blame the game. I don't know how diverse the different cards get in the later stage of the game though, so at this point a precise analyse is prone to be unreliable.

Thanks for the responses! I'm still torn about whether I should buy a copy. 20 Euro for a game I've only known about for a few days is quite a lot. On the other hand, feedback so far is almost entirely positive, and the game seems to be selling well here. I think I'll give it a few more days before I make up my mind. :)

gamesfreak64: looks nice, but is 3d... this time lucky for me cause my GPU wont cut it
i have GTS 250 1 GB mem
since GPU will make the differnce once again like in old times, its good i also like
casual games, otherwise i would be forced to buy a new GPU every 1 or 2 years, while the current one is still performing perfectly for me.
My 250 GTS runs the game just fine even with every thing maxxed & @ the highest res my monitor does (1600x900)

I've run many a 3D games on this graphics card

& this is the GOG version of HOF I used & I like it

so gts250 can run gts260 games okay?
GTX is older or newer then GTS range?
i see GTX often at the requirements
Ha, for a moment I thought it was about the Legend of Kyrandia 2 The hand of fate.
Better that it is about a new game!

GTS =low spec GT card
GTX =the higher spec version of the card

but the GT 2XX gen shouldn't make much difference in the capabilities in the but a GT"X" & a higher second digit 2(X)0 should have better performance. though at this stage if you going to upgrade it may be wise Not to get a card using this number scheme. but just know that while it is considered pretty much a wildly outdated card it can still game on in games like F.E.A.R.,S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow Warrior reboot, CONSORTIUM & many of the classic & newer 3D I've tried

Gave in and bought a copy myself, and gave it a test run of about 1-2 hours. I'm using a GTX 750 Ti, which still seems to be one of the most popular mid-range gaming cards but certainly isn't high-end, and to my surprise it pretty much maxes the game out. I've been playing at full HD resolution, with all quality settings at max, and it runs very smoothly. No crashes or other technical difficulties, either. It's such a joy to play a recently released PC game which isn't plagued by all kinds of glitches, hardware compatibility problems and program instability. The 3D sections are surprisingly pretty, too -- visual quality is probably about on par with The Witcher 2, which is not bad at all, for a low budget production I never heard of until it showed up here.

So far the game itself has been fun, but this was probably worth the purchase just to support a good developer, and reward them not only for the creative game concept, but also the effort they put into testing and fine-tuning.
Just watched TB's video on Hand of fate... Really good and interesting game... I now know i want to get it at some point.
