Beware the Black Death, destroyer of kingdoms.

Grand Ages: Medieval a global strategy game of war and economics, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com.

How do you feel about gameplay on a grand scale? Well, Grand Ages: Medieval is ready to tickle your fancy of grandeur. There are hundreds of settlements, and over 30,000,000 Square Kilometers of Europe, Africa, Middle East and Scandinavia - and when you zoom in on your local lumberjacks going about their day, the immensity of it all immediately hits home.
Grand Ages: Medieval is first and foremost a game of economics and city building. You'll start out with a lonely settlement to build up from scratch, while slowly building up trade networks and relationships with neighboring, up-and-coming kingdoms, just like yours. The goal? Sharden: is there a problem with playing multiplayer with steam users? or am i just too dumb to make it work

I bought the game here on GoG, a friend of mine on steam. When I try to play MP with him, i cant see any games (and yes, i am using GOG Galaxy, it says MP enabled)

BKGaming: I'm not sure if this game has crossplay or not... if it doesn't then that won't work. Only a few games currently support that right now.
hu,that would actually kinda suck :/

well iguess if this is the case,i gonna have to give the game back here and change to steam :/

Typically GOG will tell us what games have crossplay with Steam in the release announcement. But hopefully a GOG staff will confirm or deny if it has this feature...

You should be able to play the game with your Steam friend. From the game's FAQ on Steam:

"I am using the steam-version, a friend of mine the Kalypso-launcher version. Can we play multiplayer together?

You can play with all players of each platform in multiplayer.
The only exception here would be the Playstation4-version of the game."

Bolded for emphasis.

B0SC0: The Multiplayer, Leaderboards and Achievements require a login to Galaxy to function. Everything else can be used offline or without Galaxy.
Bad move, at least for GOG's audience (I know I won't be installing Galaxy any time soon). Just saying.

Or a very good move depending on how you look at it. Numbers don't lie.

Does this title compare in any way to Medieval Total War 2? It appears to start with a small medieval town but escalates to medieval empires with large armies, sieges, etc.

Or perhaps is it like Banished with inter-city combat?

Or Settlers?

Let's first agree that newspost is a mess: dubious math, poorly written. 1 out of 6 million has activated Witcher 3 over Galaxy, more power to them, still proves little. That said, I don't deny the majority of people care less and less about being free of a client app. GOG knows full well though that if there's a place where customers value freedom is here, that's why they go out of their way to make clear the client is FULLY OPTIONAL. Well, not in this game.

2 out of those 3 are irrelevant if you don't multiplayer though (and thus need the Galaxy client), achievements can be argued I guess though I'm sure even GOG will be recommending developers to use Galaxy for that rather than do it standalone in the client.

+to the developers for having Fullscreen Windowed and the option to select which monitor to use :)

The newspost is irrelevant really.

It proves that the GOG community is not just the few hundred or maybe a few thousand that regularly use this forum that like to complain about Galaxy. However the client is fully optional. You don't need to it to play the game, mutliplayer is an optional feature. Online Multiplayer has never been self- reliant either, it has and always will depended on something, rather that be the internet or a service to make it work.

As I said above... when people post stuff like this they act like without Galaxy whatever Galaxy powered game would have came with some different form of multiplayer to GOG. Which is far from true, because more than likely the game would have released with no multiplayer because most companies are not going to take the time to build a multiplayer infrastructure for a game that uses Steamworks on Steam here on GOG. Simple as that. So with at least Galaxy there is some form a online MP for those who want it.

so just as a heads up: it seems so far that steam-people can see each other and Galaxy People can see each other, but Steam cant see Galaxy and vice versa.

I hope this is just a bug and needs fixing, otherwise it would truly suck :/

Then I guess you get to miss out on those things by choice.

Spoke with the Devs, crossplay should be enabled, so this is an issue that needs to be fixed. They won't be able to hotfix it over the weekend, but we'll get it out ASAP on Monday. Sorry for the inconvenience!
