To arms, my noble Saxon knights!

Defender of the Crown, a 1986 turn-based strategy classic, originally launched on the Commodore Amiga, is available in all it's pixelated glory on GOG.com, for $5.99!

We are happy to announce a new partnership with Cinemaware that will bring plenty of mouth-watering classics in their best available incarnations. Starting with Defender of the Crown, more classic titles from Cinemaware will release on GOG.com with both PC and emulated Commodore Amiga versions. Yes, the graphically superior, awesome, beautiful and shiny Amiga versions!

Today's release is a wonderful gem straight from the 80s. Back in the day, Defender of the Crown set a new standard for graphical presentation and innovative, fresh gameplay. As the leader of an initially sparse pack of Saxon knights, building up your army and influence as you proceed, you'll have to stick it to the Normans in an effort to gain control of the war-torn medieval England. Your strategic prowess as well as your sword fighting skills will be severely tested. This turn-based strategy classic will have you saving damsels in distress with your blade, jousting with fearsome knights, and besieging Norman castles - all the while reveling in the Amiga quality sound and beautiful graphics.

Defeat those pesky Normans and unite England in Defender of the Crown, for $5.99 on GOG.com.

Interesting!
They should just put the .adf in the extras if it's extractable anyway :)
Yeah, I see the reboot after music with Aros ROM now :) It didn't work for me with internal / default though.

Well, running innoextract and 7z a couple of times isn't much of an effort, but I wouldn't mind if they put *.adf files in the extras :)

Sure, seems easy enough. I guess I'll have to fire up FS-UAE tonight and try it out. I haven't used FS-UAE much but it seems the most actively developed UAE for Linux right now.
Hopefully stuff like King of Chicago and It Came From the Desert aren't too far off, not to mention Wings.
Nice release, Dos version is awful as expected. I miss my 'Miggy'.
OK, I managed to run the game with open Aros ROMs (you can get them here http://aros.sourceforge.net/nightly.php see amiga-m68k-boot and unpack that file first):

Here is the combination:

Amiga model: Amiga 600
ROM: aros-amiga-m68k-rom.bin
Extended ROM: aros-amiga-m68k-ext.bin
Slow RAM: 512 KB

Using the closed ROM 1.2 which ships with the game you can use Amiga 1000 and it runs much better.

Emulated diskette sound in fs-uae can be fun for a while, but probably you can switch it off :)

I currently playing the beta of "Wings: Re-mastered edition and it's glorious. I hope they re-master "It came from the desert" next.

I run it with 1mb fast ram and 512k slow ram. Of course, I run it classic on ClassicWB. Highly recommended!

Is it like emulating the whole Amiga OS?

Wishbone: How exactly? I don't see anything resembling an embedded ADF inside that exe using 7zip. Admittedly, I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for.
avatar
SCPM: After you've unpacked the .exe, find the file titled .data. Unpack this file with 7zip and you'll find the adfs in the sub-directory titled 'Media'.
cheers

Is that the alpha/beta or something?

Interesting. A pity the Red Baron remake failed on Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/madottergames/red-baron

It's been out for years. It's fairly easy to setup. See Classicwb.com for further details. One more thing before I forget, it requires Claontos' Amiga package for the different versions of Amiga kickstart roms to setup properly. These roms are still under copy-write.

Oh, I thought you were referring to the Kickstarter project for the Winds remake, see the link in above post.

Sorry about the confusion. Wings is on it's final beta. It's great fun.
