MarkoH01: One thing has nothing to do with the other. Only because the dev is lacking adding achievements as he does on Steam does not mean that GOG will get fewer old games. Adding achievements for any game is NOT additional workload GOG would have - it is purely up to the devs to add these.
Then it's more work for the
dev, then, and i'd rather they work on more new games and fixing older games than worrying about achievements. :)
(If they had to choose between the two, I mean)
MarkoH01: There simply is no reason for any dev to give GOG not the same treatment regarding achievements and many other features the same game has on Steam. After all, they want the same money from us.
We get the same base game in most cases, do we not? And the DLCs(if any)?
The only things we often don't get that should be given to make both versions equal(imo) is extras like soundtracks/manuals/etc.....
MarkoH01: Also, just because you don't care about achievements does not mean that they should not be here at all. We had this discussion over and over but achievements are good for those who want them and not bad for those who don't care bout them as long as they are optional and can be turned off.
I don't control whether they are here(for games) or not, and I don't care/mind if they add them to games here....I was just putting in my two cents on the matter. :)
Achievements seem to do little good besides giving people a slight happy feeling when they see the picture and text pop up & perhaps also helping them track what they've done(in some cases)....they are added "fluff" and imo not needed to enjoy a good game.
MarkoH01: Since we are not talking about ingame achievements here they would be completely optional ... if they were an option at all which so far is only the case on Steam and not on GOG and that simply is wrong no matter how you or I or anybody is thinking about achievements. Please don't defend when devs are treating GOG customer a second class - the list is too long already ;)
I'm not trying to defend devs doing such....I am just trying to state my dislike of achievements being shoehorned into every game because people have become hooked on them.
(Also, to be fair, some here might see them not adding achievements to a game to make Gog players
first class citizens)
MarkoH01: You are correct but GOG always was open about this fact. Using DosBox, ScummVM, dgVoodoo, nGlide ect. is easy for those that know how to use these emulators. GOG was always trying to let people not so tech savvy install a game and let them play immediately without configuring or tweaking them (they are not always successful but they try). There are also a still exceptions in which GOG did their own solutions to get music to work or fix some bugs as well. The general ide is always the same: install and play right away.
True, but they did get caught LONG AGO & at least once for using someone's work and calling it the work of "gog technical gremlins" or something similar.....I remember as many complained about it back then.
This, though, is not to say they don't do good work...they do, and often....I just wanted to point this out to the other user who replied here.
MarkoH01: In this case the dev himself said that the game has problems with "modern systems" - so if this in fact is the case it might not be so easy for GOG to fix this. Then again - I did not have any problems in Win7 so it's hard to imagine such a game would make trouble on Win10. Maybe the devs simply did not have much interest in supporting another game here on GOG - like I said, it is hard to believe that this game would be problematic on Win10.
Was your Win7 32 Bit? The exe/installer could be 16 bit and need to be redone for 64bit systems, then.
