Airstrike!

Close Combat: Last Stand Arnhem is now available DRM-free, 75% off until December 6th, 3PM UTC.
The rest of the Close Combat series is also on sale for the duration.

This mega-updated release uses the series' latest engine and brings all sorts of improvements and additions across the board. Help the Allies in their highly ambitious airborne Operation Market Garden or side with the Germans as they scramble to set up a defense around Arnhem Bridge.
Now this is something. A Bridge Too Far was an amazing game. If there are improvements that do not detract from the gameplay, this could be great.
Are you guys certain the trailer provided on the store page is actually a *trailer*? I'm pretty much convinced it's someone's let's play rather than a more-or-less oficial game teaser.
Not that it breaks something, perhaps apart from the general convention you seemed to follow so far ;)
Despite not wanting to buy more strategy for the foreseeable future (as I don't have time for them), it's a great release and discount. Nabbed the entire new series.
low rated
Makes sense; the Ducks are having an okay season so far.

Oh wait, that's Anaheim.
Dang! Only just bought Close Combat 2 a few days ago because this one wasn't on GOG. Sucks to be me!
The full price tho.. that doesn't look like a 34€ game O_o
These games are from a time where a game was actually still worth something… because you would get a few months of actual gameplay out of them. Not like today where you pay for the privilege to be psychologically manipulated into sinking hours into something that cannot by any objective measure be called "fun" ;)
€35 is a fine price, they used to cost more than twice that and they didn't get any worse in the meantime.

Eh, I dare say you're generalizing a bit too much there. I just bought the "Gold Edition" of Resident Evil 7 recently; retail copy, still factory sealed, for about 15 bucks. Tons of quality content and additional game modes and mini-games, and not a single micro-transaction or "lootbox" anywhere to be seen. The Dark Souls games will also provide you with dozens, or even hundreds of hours of entertainment -- again, without any micro-transactions or similar scams.

My point being, modern AAA games without manipulative business tactics, and a good price/value ratio certainly still exist, you just have to do your research before you buy. And yes, 35€ for this type of game is comparatively expensive. Of course this isn't the real price anyway. The publisher is well aware that few people will buy it at the full price. They set such a high base price so they can put it on sale several times per year, and lure people in with ridiculous discount percentages, when in reality you're just buying it at the intended price. ( Speaking of psychological manipulation of customers... )
Great! I was waiting for this release. It features the battles that were fought in my home country. And I find the engine in the old Bridge Too Far game too old for my liking (I don't have nostalgia glasses as I'm late to gaming).
I would like some help deciding on getting this.

1. Is this a new game... or has it been on GOG for awhile, and now it's just discounted?

2. The description makes it "sound" like it's a remake/remastering/modernized of the actual, original Close Combat, i.e. the original missions or campaign. I thought one of these other CC games was already a remake/remastering/modernized original CC game? And don't most of these CC+ games actually come with the original CC? Including this one?

Not looking for a fight, and not putting it down. I just thought this game sounded like it was already out on GOG already? I'm an old gamer and still enjoy the old retro pixel games, so maybe I don't need this?

It is a remake of a game that has been on GOG for a while - Close Combat 2: A Bridge Too Far to be exact (which is also discounted at the moment). CC: LSA isn't new as such, as the game has been around for a couple of years, but it's new to GOG.
Don't mix up the original Close Combat here - CC1 features Normandy campaign, while in CC2 or Last Stand Arnhem you're given a chance to command operation Market Garden. However, I wouldn't go as far to say that original Close Combat ever received an actual remake, even though there were two revisits to Normandy within the series (Close Combat 5 as well as The Longest Day).

I dare say if you're happy with any other part of Close Combat (especially CC2, the best one in my opinion), you don't urgently need this one. You'll enjoy it if looking for new challenges though.

Hear, hear.

Too many titles are doing that. Eventually they lead to the question "why am I even playing this?"

When a game makes you have a fun time, and you are getting something from it, that question never arises.

Agreed. CC2, A Bridge Too Far, showed more polish and was more organic than the first CC1. The hook of CC1 was the novelty of having the soldiers thinking and reacting by themselves instead of being just mindless drones like in every other game, and in real time.

CC2 in the Great Campaign was amazing: Three sectors with different operations going on in different scenarios. Taking tough decisions on supply and reinforcements. It felt epic. The game came with lots of information on the operation, for those who wanted to have a better grasp of what was at stake there and the circumstances on both sides.

Is this means no Close Combat or Slitherine promo during the Winter Sale ?

Indeed it doesn't
