Prepare yourself for a new look at narrative adventure games. The Council from the Focus Home Interactive is now available on GOG.COM DRM-free. It’s a game in which every our decision counts and every character changes as the story unfolds. Until 3 December, 2 pm UTC, you can buy The Council with a 66% discount.

The Council gives us a chance to attend a meeting of a secret society in the year 1793. On the small island off the shores of England, famous historical figures like Napoleon Bonaparte and George Washington are present. Intrigues and secrets run high, yet our main character has more pressing matters to attend – his mother recently went missing on the same island.
I'm waiting for the weekend, because I'm suspecting GOG will have a black friday sale, but even so, I think I'll be getting the Council. Thank you Focus Home! Hopefully we'll see some warhammer releases in the future.

BreOl72: The communicative system is remotely reminiscent of my much-valued espionage role-playing game Alpha Protocol, but is designed here even more coherent and diverse.
That definitely piqued my interest. Alpha Protocol is one of my favorite branching storylines in gaming. A lot of voiced games don't actually have meaningful dialogue choices. Just opportunities to ask more questions.
looks like my kind of game, wishlisted

Same here.
Alpha Protocol is a great game, even if it has some design decisions that I didn't like (like, say, bulletsponging boss enemies, bouncing around like a superball). ;)

Pajama: Just a quick question as the wording on the store page seems ambiguous - is the game on sale now the Complete Season of 5 episodes or are the other 4 coming at a later date?
avatar
emter_pl: This is a complete season - all episodes included in one buy.
WoW, I'm getting this on the 29th then!

WhackMAll: Normally I only buy older games at a BIG discount.

Sir_Kill_A_Lot: The final episode was released less than a year ago, that's not what I'd call old :-)
And for this age the discount is quite big! I'm glad I can finally buy it here.
To clarify: I meant really old games Baldurs Gate (I+II), Icewindale (I+II), Neverwinter Nights (I+II)
Ofcourse I came to GOG through The Witcher (includes 2 and III now)
Bought it. The devs are supposed to be working on a game similar to this but within the Vampire: The Masquerade universe, so I want to see what their previous outing was like. And of course it's great that we're getting a consistent stream of Focus Home games. I hope A Plague Tale isn't too far off now.
Just thought I'd point out that this game has no manual saves.
If I'd known that I wouldn't have bought it, so I'm just letting others know.
Also extremely long unskippable cut scenes.

That's exactly what the devs advertized and how it is supposed to be. Your choices will influence the story and you will have to live with the choices you made - therefore no manual saves (but the game saves really often - also you can access certain chapters inside an episode after you have finished them once). The game is exactly designed like the Telltale Games with the addition of RPGs element - so yes, it feels a bit like a long movie with only little parts in which you have complete control over your character. The game mostly is about choices and dialogue.
The choices, the story branches, the replayability are far, far exceeding any of Telltale's TWD games. Anybody who's skeptic about "interactive film" genre should give this game a chance.
Yes, it's far more of an actual game than anything made by Telltale (apart from their early stuff like the Sam and Max games). For people concerned about the lack of manual saves: if you wish you can locate the savegame directory, copy your save file somewhere else, then copy it back over if you're not happy with how something turns out. I started doing this after I realised one puzzle in the third chapter had a clue that was highly misleading, if not outright false (and the conseqences for getting it wrong are extremely severe). It's a hassle to have to manually restore saves, but well worth it to save you having to replay an entire chapter.
Oh I didn't realize this was a Focus Home-published game (didn't bother to check this thread). Was happy to see A Plague Tale is likely coming soon too. I do find it strange the Styx games and Of Orcs And Men aren't here yet.
