Dark Alliance is basically an action rpg/Diablo-clone, right?

Still trolling if you ask me since it has nothing to do with this thread. It was off topic just to provoke those who like such games (and yes, they do exist). Doing this in the release thread is one thing but doing it in a completely unrelated release thread is another thing.

As I understand it, work has done to bring this to PC and crossplatform. However this doesn't equate to remaking the entire game from scratch. A €30 price tag is a bit steep and not something I will buy. €20 would have been a much better asking price and I would bought it right away.

Will wait for a discount I guess.

Then i'll assume this doesn't include the second half of the game... Which is sad, i never played the second half.

If Hack&Slash equals Diablo clone, then yes.

Spells and theme are squarely in D&D though. Feats and the like, well they are oddly streamlined for the specific classes.

And a few familiar actors, which sound a bit phoned in.

+1. I remember playing this when it came out on the Gamecube. It's basically a totally linear and quite mediocre Diablo clone that has literally nothing to do with the proper Baldur's Gate RPGs, except that it has the 'Baldur's Gate' label stuck on it.

I found it disappointing back then and frankly wouldn't pay $5 for it now.

I was so pleasantly surprised, when I saw the release announcement at the bottom of the front page.
I always wanted to try this game out, but after seeing how expensive it is, not that much, thank you.

What was the reasoning behind this choice? "This game was an important release back in 2001, and after all, it is only 20 years old. Let's sell it for half its 2001 release date price!"

Whaaaaaaaaaaat? That is so expensive, doesn't GOG have reginal prices?

It's not even the same kind of game. It is a generic "Diablo-like" loot collecting ARPG with a simplistic leveling system. Its main distinguishing feature at the time was superior graphic effects (for a PS2 game).

It was a great game for the PS2. The other games made with the same engine were generally better. The Bard's Tale (2004), available here for $20 (currently on sale for $5) is what I consider to be the best of the bunch. I consider Fallout: POS to be the worst (probably because it made a mockery of Fallout, before Bethesda had a chance to officially grind it into the dirt, not because it was a bad game in and of itself). Note that I'm only aware of 6 games: BGDA 1&2, CON 1&2, FO:POS, BT. If there are more, maybe my assessment is false.

While I like the idea of having BGDA on Linux w/o PCSX2, I don't really want to pay $30 for a game that wasn't all that great.

I'm a little confused, to be honest. Not having regional pricing used to be something GOG was quite proud of, and when they introduced regional pricing many people got very angry. And now I see people complaining about the lack of regional pricing. So which is it, GOG community? Do we hate regional pricing or outrigh demand it? :D

I never really understood the arguments for/against regional pricing, tbh. It seems like there are different winners/losers whichever way you go, so not sure GOG can really win either way?

Arguing for or against regional pricing seems to be delineated by whether or not it benefits you. People from countries like Russia and China, who benefit from regional pricing seem to be for it. People from countries like Canada or Germany are mostly against regional pricing cause it costs them more. So opinion on it seems entirely driven by self interest and nothing more.

Well, are they kidding that 30 EUR are demanded for a Linux game using 32 bit libs ???
Or is this a typical GOG mistake/joke for people using GNU/Linux ...
Steam gives a release date of 17 Dec, 2021 - which is also missing on GOG product page -
and stating it is Shared/Split Screen Co-op - which would make it interesting ...
and gives "Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system" and "Ubuntu 20.04 or later" ...
so seems to be the typical care Linux gets from GOG.
Oh, nice - it is the one being the Linux team stating to need 32 bit libs and the same time
giving "This game comes with a 64-bit binary only."
Maybe one should use people who know a little bit about computers / programming / gaming.
But it fits to this winter sale perfectly ... thanks GOG for your care ... to be Windows only!

Not only is the price balk-able, but debuting it during a big sale without a discount? Yeah, I wish-listed it for when it's at a reasonable sale price, because yeesh, that's a bit high!
