Ancestors Legacy is now available DRM-free. Get it 50% off until March 22nd, 2pm UTC.

Ancestors Legacy is a squad-based real time strategy with a strong focus on tactics. Inspired by medieval European history, it brings to life four different nations and their conflicts, usually solved by war.
I wish Destructive Creations would have done something more with the Hatred engine, in that - from what I saw - the destructible buildings in Hatred looked pretty neat.
Looks interesting. RTS is so rare these days. And this is 50% off, so I guess I'll give it a try. :-)

Note for the bluetexts: the minimum processor listing is a copy of the text for mimimum operating system. It should be a CPU.
I have completely lost hope this will release here, with all the shenanigans developers did when it was released, and I lost interest in the game meanwhile.

Now they released it, complete with crossplay + Galaxy support and for half a price, so instabuy.

To anyone who wants to go to the reviews section of this game and give it 1 star because it's late: Don't. Complaining about circumstances around a game is not a review. It's rather annoying to have to sift through such bombing to finally find someone who has played the game and can say something informative about it.

Matruchus: I wish somebody who played this in its current state would comment on it. I'm not really sure if I should get this or not.

In Free Beta the game was basically without any city/base building just click on premade place and build building. As much as I could see this isnt really a RTS. More of a RTT game.
Dude, please - can we stop with this all it's not real X genre already?

As I understand, it is medieval CoH, which means that it should have some kind of economy, hence it should be some kind of RTS.
Excellent, a complete version. Worth the wait I suppose.
I was pretty pissed towards the dev for their huge delays, but in the end -and believe me, I totally didn't expect this- they delivered.
Not exactly a behavior wothy of praise, but better late than never!

The game seems awesome, and I will buy it for sure eventually (hopefully sooner rather than later).
Crossplay with Steam is awesome and worth waiting any amount of time for. Every dev should do this for all GOG multiplayer games, yet almost none do.

Far better for every multiplayer game on GOG to be delayed for eons, than to release it at the same time as on other platforms yet with it permanently condemned never to have Crossplay and therefore be relegated to being stuck with a completely useless multiplayer-in-name-only feature (i.e. 99% of Galaxy-only multiplayer games).

And the devs also didn't shaft GOG customers on Achievements.

I give these devs the highest possible commendations for these noble actions.
Looks pretty, violent, and involves strategy. Yup, picking this one up at 50% off

Its not even close to CoH. Only people who never played CoH and saw some videos on Youtube compared this to CoH. The game is several times more barebones. You are extremely limited with everything you do besides big emphasis on tactical battles which it definitely has. Everything else is just not there. If you love tactical battles then the game is for you. Economy in this game is just an afterthought. If it wouldn't be there it wouldn't really matter, that's how little it matter. Thats my experience from the beta. Hence why its more RTT then RTS and for a lot of people that distinction actually matters. Especially for older people who played RTS games in their golden era.

Eitherway I haven't mentioned that its a RTT to start another pointless discussion, just for people who actually wan't to play a real RTS game so that they don't get burned by buying this.

Also a CoH like game is coming to gog and that's Iron Harvest.

As much as I'm hyped for this title, I'm a little bit confused. Retail version of Ancestors Legacy in Poland contains (apart from the game):

- soundtrack CD,
- steelbook,
- printed manual,
- printed hardcover artbook (48 pages).

And it costs 8$. Eight American dollars. But of course it's Steam version... GOG's Special Edition (with soundtrack and artbook) costs 20,5$. I can literally get 2,5 copies of game with physical goodies and (unfortunately) Steam key for one GOG copy (during 50% promo).

Part of me wants this game so bad. But the other part says that picking it up here isn't very rational decision :-(

Honestly, I'd be happy to exchange 2,5 Steam keys for 1 GOG copy... But I guess it won't work that way unless someone wants to exchange...

There is not really a legitimate reason* why this game couldn't have released here on release day, with an indication that "Crossplay is coming later". There is a singleplayer component to this game that many users were looking forward to playing, to the point they pre-ordered, expecting the dev/pub to be true to their word. These users were given no indication the game would be delayed and were waking up on release day only to see it was delayed indefinitely.

Don't get me wrong, I am very glad to see the game is here now! I had really been looking forward to it and it is a "big" release that I think is good for GOG. I just wish there had been more transparency about it. Maybe when the devs fled to the Steam forums it was a good test run for Crossplay: "If GOG users follow us over here to ask where the heck their game is, while we ignore them on GOG, that shows there is an audience for Crossplay".

Edit: the dev posted on the game forum here and there is a legitimate reason. The dev's post is detailed and explains the delay, with apologies: https://www.gog.com/forum/ancestors_legacy/official_apologies_from_destructive_creations/post1

I agree. I cant think of how many reviews I have read that are complaining of price, late launches, and other topics not directly to do with the game play or content it self.

These types of reviews actually go against the GOG terms when writing a review.

"
Review the game

Your review should focus on your in-game experience only. Let the game stand entirely on its own merits.
Avoid noise

To discuss topics such as news, pricing, or community, use our forums. To request new games and website or GOG Galaxy features, use the community wishlist. To get technical support for your game contact our support team.
Critique responsibly

To keep our review sections clean and helpful, we will remove any reviews that break these guidelines or our terms of use."

I am glad some one brought it up. It was getting to the point of seeing so many reviews like this that I was going to open a thread discussion about it at the GOG forums.

Reviews such as the 1 star review are criticisms that can be brought up at forums along with bug reports and the like......and should not be in game reviews. It is a miss use of the game review function.
