Can't wait for the day that Max Payne finally gets on GOG for everyone but the German customers, and good news, you can now gift games to your fellow countrymen (only)! :P

Leroux: That seems to confirm though that these games were available for purchase to Germans at one time and then IP-banned retroactively, without notice. is that true?
avatar
AlliumSativum: I bought this games in Nov. 2013, I can't say anything about recent IP bans. But I fear, there will be more games, because the german index is fairly extensive: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kategorie:Indiziertes_Computerspiel
As far as I can see it's not the games on that list that are affected so far but games that are on this list:
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kategorie:Beschlagnahmtes_Computerspiel
Which would explain why we still have Harvester etc.

But you are missing something. Games on the index are still allowed to be sold to adults. Not to minors and no advertising. So this large list is not the problem.
The problem is the list that are confiscated (18 games in total):

Max Payne was freed from the "Index" several years ago. You can even buy retail copies of it in stores now. Only Steam is too thick to actually realize that and never lifted the region lock.

Also: Fuck this shit! One of the reasons I came to GOG was to get away from this patronizing censorship garbage. Seriously, at this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if Galaxy just turns out to be a way to introduce DRM. I mean, that's basically the only difference between GOG and Steam now. They'll probably try to sugarcoat it as some other "good news".

And I was even planning to buy Mortal Kombat at some point.

Yesterday Australia, Today Germany, what tomorrow? I've tested this by myself.

You mean auto-updating, achievements, cloud saving,...?

What the actual ***?
Are you serious?

Mortal Kombat 1+2+3 was on my wishlist, I guess I can forget that now...
Logging in on this site and seeing the interface in German was a nice surprise (though I set it to English again ten seconds later), but now?

Additional languages are a nice addition, but certainly not at this high a cost! And writing your typical PR-shit on Hotline Miami 2 and locking three other games the next day without even mentioning that fact in the announcement?

I'm through with GOG.com for now, enough is enough. I guess it's no big deal to forget the DRM-free-aspect at this point and for the first time I feel an actual need to backup all my stuff again.

I won't buy any games here while this regional locking lasts.
So, do the people who claim that GOG shouldn't sell Hotline Miami 2 because it is banned in Australia now also want Mortal Combat and Commandos to leave the catalog because they cannot be sold in Germany?
It is ok to launch a german website, that abides to regional law.

But IT IS NOT OK to paternalize mature german customers!

Gog.com, please add a section (or access to the international gog.com site) on the german site, which is restricted by age verification.

That is all it needs for us in germany to buy or import uncut games in a propper legal way. The german media index is nothing more than just a restriciton in terms of open advertising (like an 18+ porn section in a store).

I know, but do you trust GOG and the publishers to handle it any different here then? I'd buy the retail version, but I'm afraid it might not run smoothly on Win 8.
GOG, I see Trust in you. Please undo the regional restriction...

But those games are not only on the index (games that are just on the index are apparently still available on GOG), Commandos and Mortal Combat 2 are games that have been confiscated. That's different.
so, no answer of the GOG-staff?

I am sad... and angry and there are many middle-fingers in the air right now

This three games aren't allowed to be sold to german customers, even if they are 18+, they are confiscated by court decision

True for everything but the swastikas. In that case, the problem is that the involved parties just can't be bothered to confirm that the exception to the ban on nazi propaganda granted to artistic and satirical works should apply to videogames in the same way that it applies to movies, literature and other mediums.
