Hi, everyone. So I just finished Might and Magic III: Isles of Terra. I've played a lot of turn-based RPGs so I want a change of pace and play something which includes action elements. I own Ultima Underworld and Gothic here on Gog. I've heard great things about them but I'm wondering if they're too difficult. So if anyone can recommend an action RPG which has just the right level of difficulty it would be very much appreciated.
Sacred 1+2, Van Helsing series, Titan Quest, Dungeon Siege series, Victor Vran. Some are available on GOG, some on Steam.

The way I see it, no such games exist; the two genres have completely different gameplay styles.

If you want an action game with RPG elements, however, you could try some of the Ys games. Note that the focus is more on the action elements rather than the RPG elements, however. For Oath in Felghana (which has the most platforming of any Ys title) and Origin (which has multiple player characters, but takes place entirely in one dungeon with no towns), I recommend playing Easy or Normal difficulty. Normal provides plenty of challenge, while Easy isn't that bad, though not completely trivial. (Very Easy difficulty exists, but on that difficulty, dying to a boss on purpose takes longer than actually killing the boss.)
Nox is quite action-heavy, with some very light RPG elements. It's also easy, only becoming difficult in the final third of the single player campaign.
If you haven't played X-Com or Jagged Alliance yet I recommend those.
van helsing, vran, torchlight, diablo i and ii
A bit of crazy-talk, perhaps, but if you haven't played Dust: An Elysian Tale, I would strongly recommend checking that out. Probably my favorite game so far this year that I've played.

It's a bit more action platformer that other suggestions here, but it has a great story and voice work, and still some good RPG elements. And the level of difficulty is exactly what you describe. Combat is generally super fun without being particularly stressful.

What is your opinion of M&M III ? I plan to play that game next. I advice you Diablo 2 and Ice Wind Dale 1.

Do note that Casual difficulty in Dust is essentially a zero difficulty. It's fun (because you can use your dust storm and Fidget power all the time), but it's trivial, and even if you do manage to die, you get infinite revives.

Normal difficulty, however, is reasonable, though the game gives you some very powerful items near the end.

Note that items with multipliers (like the ring that triples item drop rate) stack multiplicitively, so two of those rings will multiply item drop rates by *nine*.
I played it on normal - still thought it was generally pretty easy with only a few tougher fights.

That said, you can also farm xp in this game, so if 1-2 more skill-ups will swing the difficulty in your favor, it's pretty easy to do.
Why not just try Gothic or Ultima Underworld, if you already own them? I haven't played through Ultima Underworld yet, but I managed to beat Gothic, so it can't be that hard; you just have to adapt to the way it's played. Then again, what do you consider the right level of difficulty? Do you want a fast-paced action game in which you're able to mow down everything in your path with ease, or an action game that also requires some caution and tactics? Are you really bad at action games or quite alright? Do you care about story? Atmosphere? Or more about loot and leveling up fast?

Well, the only true action game I've played is the Legend of Zelda series and I was quite good at it. But I think after so many turn-based games I'm unaccustomed to that style of play. The right difficulty would be something that isn't terribly punishing but at least has some challenge.

The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall!
An amazing open-world dungeon crawler, though I'd definitely recommend customizing the controls (possible in-game) and playing with view-based mouse controls (mouselook) rather than cursor-based.

Sudeki is also a lot of fun.

And then there's the cult-classic Amulets and Armor, which combines Doom-style first person action with quests, characters classes, spellcasting, etc. It's really good, even if the graphics are pretty hideous.
Play The Witcher (series). But read the books first, if possible.

Edit: And Ultima Underworld is very good. Just give it a try.
