I am impressed and excited.
I keep telling myself I will build a "Pi computer one day just for the fun of it". As the cost comes in at around £50~70 for a full setup. I never know if I will (because I am so lazy), but with improvements like this, I can only see it being something I will want to try doing even more.
I am worried about Windows 10 though. I do not know why, but Microsoft have worried me with everything they have said about it so far, and now this announcement about it. I wounder now if making it work with Pi will be like making Windows 8 tablet compatible..... I guess only time will tell.

I've always wanted to try and build something from one of these things, but I doubt I will ever get round to it...
Sounds great though. That's a pretty good little computer you're getting for that price.

Just to be clear, Windows 10 is supported (and free) but totally optional! You can definitely stay with Linux if you prefer (which I definitely do).

Windows 10 will be free to people who have Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 for the first year only. After that you pay Microsoft to purchase Windows 10.
Here is a quote from Microsoft's new CEO.
Q&A: Nadella says calling Windows 10 a service does not imply change in business model.
You pat to purchase the Windows 10 license that is all no monthly subscriptions for Windows 10 or yearly subscriptions at all.
Windows 10 is so much more better than Windows 7. A lot of people are liking the Chrome like tabs that Windows 10 has.

Office 2013 is a service as well. It the same sense that this will be. Service in terms of maintenance, updates, and new features, not in terms of payment.

Keep in mind that this is windows 10 for arm. It won't run any x86 code. There is significantly less software available for windows on arm.
Just because it can run windows doesn't mean that's the best option.

I have two Pi model B's running on XBMC on Arch - one for each TV. I have all the media on a el-cheapo NAS that is also running an ARM processor. I run a MySql database on the NAS that both XBMC's share. It works as slick as monkey shit. I can start watching a movie downstairs, hit pause, and resume from the same point upstairs.
And they consume hardly any juice.

I love the fact that I'm using the Windows 10 Preview Build. You don't have it? It's released.

Windows 10 support makes me scratch my head, since windows has almost exclusively been on x86 hardware. Let's not forget the Raspberry Pi won't have several gigs of memory, it's effectively a 32bit machine.
