cool, thank you. sounds like thats the only file is need. awesome, minus the main game file.

Also, how do i autoload duke nukem in the properties? so that way i can just click on on the icon and the game will show up? i know gzdoom has this feature, what about this one?

lastly, is the atomic edition same as the mega edition or no? whats the difference between the two?

.RTS is not needed. For the original game (inc Atomic) you just need the .GRP.

If you are using just the original game (no expansions) then it should auto load by default. (There's a checkbox on the select what GRP to load window, so click on that first to stop that window from loading up.)

Edit: Uncheck the box called 'Always show this window on startup.'

I assume your talking about Megaton? Atomic is is just a re-release of the original game with an extra episode (kinda like how Ultimate Doom is a re-release of Doom with another episode.) It also came out in 1996.

Megaton came out in 2013. It includes the Atomic version, plus all of its official expansions (D.C, Nuclear Winter, Caribbean.) It has OpenGL support as it uses JFDuke (similar to eDuke) and uses a higher resolution hud compared to the original.

You should be able to take the GRPs from Megaton to use under eDuke.

I prefer using eDuke though, as Megaton was never released DRM free, Also Megaton has now been removed for sale in favour of 20th Anniversary Wold Tour.

Yes, and it's really fucking good. Pistol starts on UV, of course :)

Only problem is, after playing valiant, every commercial first person shooter looks very mediocre and slow and boring.

oh i see, so the checkbox does that. every time when i click the program it goes unchecked. is there a way to make sure it stays checked?

yes, im talking about the megaton edition. sounds like the atomic is a same as the megaton edition. are there any changes in the megaton compared to atomic?

i found a full version on a website that has atomic edition for free. some site called fps legends.

It should remain checked when clicked it if doesn't then create a shortcut to eduke32.exe and right click on it and click properties and in the target line add the following after end " with a space between " and below:

-nosetup

That will skip the window, and should launch the game directly.

For differences it only uses JFDuke (JFDuke does the same thing as eDuke) and has high quality menus, text and a hud. Gameplay wise there's not too much difference. Megaton also has the official expansions included as I said above. Atomic does not.

Also if you want Duke legit the only way to get it at the moment is either original CD or Anniversary on Steam. (You can just copy DUKE3D.GRP to the eDuke directory from the Anniversary installation, or from the Duke3D CD.)

i tried adding -nosetup to shortcut and such and it didn't work.

am i doing something wrong?

the files i have are: Duke.rts, Duke3d.grp & dukedc.grp are those the only files i need? am i missing a file? could that be a problem or no?i also, have the mods and maps folder in the folder too from atomic edition. do i need those or no?

so sounds like i don't really megaton edition then since there is not much differences, cool. i have a place in my city that is half price book stores, they sell pc games, i look to see if they have a legit cd copy of atomic edition.

Its most likely better to start from scratch tbh, as it sounds like you have alot of files it doesn't need.

Download eDuke32 for Windows from here:

https://dukeworld.com/eduke32/synthesis/latest/?s=d&o=d&dir=eduke32/synthesis/latest

Extract it to a folder (Name it whatever you want ie C:\Duke3D). You only need Duke3d.grp to be copied to the main folder where eduke32.exe is. Duke.rts is not needed and remove dukedc.grp for now as thats the addon and we have to tell it to use that spec. The only file you need for Atomic is Duke3D.grp. Nothing else is needed.

Then try launching it directly. Duke 3D should then run. Then try adding the shortcut again. If that works let me know then we can cover then addons.

okay i have deleted the old folder and i have downloaded the program eduke and i have a 64 bit computer. so my computer is the 64 version, so i downloaded the 64 version.

i have only added the main file i need and its loaded back up.

so far its still doesn't let me autoload from the properties or lets me check enable autoload folder. do i need to type a folder name autoload or no?

If Op did that then he wouldn't be able to change the grp file being used easily(to play other expansions/etc).....or is there a way to get the window to show up again later on if one unchecks the box?

Doesn't GOG also sell the original game here(minus expansions)?

If you want to play the expansions then you need their grp files as well(if you can find a digital copy of the game with them or the original CDs online/etc). You also need the high resolution pack files(they can stay zipped and not unzipped) placed in the autoload folder if you want to use the high res textures(some are nice but taxing on older systems). There are also better music packs(which would also go in autoload iirc) on duke4.net and some other sites.

IIRC=If i recall correctly.

Autoload is a folder you put in your eduke32 folder where you put mods that mod whatever game/expansion you are playing through eduke32 at the time. You may need to make one in the eduke32 main folder(named autoload).

Simply download the files(they are around 800+ MB for the main high res pack plus the update pack that goes with it) and place them(without unzipping) directly into that autoload folder in your eduke32 folder and when running eduke32 make sure the autoload checkbox is checked to use the autoload folder.

================== Get the standalone(version 5.4) HRP if you want it(890+ MB) and drop the zip file into the autoload folder in your eduke32 folder, make sure use autoload(folder) checkbox in eduke32 is checked, and also make sure your grp files are where they need to be(for the game/expansions).

Then simply run the program after setting the settings and have fun.

(They also have music packs and other files at that same link to try out....most get dropped same as the HRP in the autoload folder as is and they will run if you followed the above steps)

You put it in the main eduke32 folder...so open the eduke32 folder, and create a folder within it called autoload.

As for it not checking the box....you need to have that folder created first to be able to check that box I think. Create that folder where I said and then put the content(High res HRP pack or music packs/etc, but NOT the game grp files) in that folder(autoload) and then check the autoload check box in the eduke32 setup.

(Also make sure the game's grp files[main game and/or any expansions] are in the MAIN folder[eduke32's main folder...which is eduke32 by default] and set the program up using the menus and click to run it.)
