Grargar: I looked around the various options, but I didn't find any way to turn off the achievement notifications.

Swedrami: No console command to disable at least the notifications popping up either, at least from what I could gather.
Shame.

Entering cheat codes usually disables them altogether, doesn't it? Might give that a try later.
You or anyone got around testing this in the meantime?

paladin181: I wonder why GOG didn't release a news post for a victory lap? Could it be because of the DRM for the addons?
I guess it's because they screwed up when they promised it was coming soon to GOG when the enhanced version was originally released.

It became a joke and i don't think they wanted to hear people's complain yet again, if they tried to act it's a "new release".
Back home again, after being away on a family holiday for a week.

I've started playing around with the Addons for Quake Enhanced.

First I investigated a few of the PAK files using PakExplorer. All looks fine, except some are pretty bare bones.

Then I copied a few of them to the Quake folder and tried to play them, with no success. This is with Win 7 32 Bit, and as the addons are likely 64 Bit I wasn't that surprised, though I was expecting some kind of error message, which may be there, but I have forgotten how to scroll back in the Console. In any case, the failure is seamless and we end up at the original Introduction level for Quake.

This was the Steam version of Quake Enhanced, but the Addons are from the GOG version.

A bit later, when I get the chance, I will use my wife's Win 8.1 64 Bit laptop to check out the same addons with the Epic version of Quake Enhanced.

And when I get some space on the dining table, bit cluttered right now, I will try the Addons with the GOG version on my new PC, but skipping the ACTIVATE button and trying to play directly with the command-line argument for additional PAK files. I am still setting up many aspects of my new PC, transferring lots of things I do over from my old PC.
For those who might like to know.

The Addons from the GOG version work out of the box, copied to the main Quake folder, even for the Epic and Steam versions, though with the Steam version you need to do the text file with the game ID in it, to avoid the Steam client starting up.

So if you have a path something like - D:\Games\Quake, you can copy an addon folder to that, like - D:\Games\Quake\Honey, and execute it using the following command-line in a desktop shortcut, with no need to bother with the EXECUTE button found in the Quake menu Addons entry.

(GOG) D:\Games\Quake\Quake_x64.exe -skipmovies -game honey +map start

(Steam) D:\Games\Quake\Quake_x64_steam.exe -skipmovies -game honey +map start

(Epic) D:\Games\Quake\Quake_x64_egs.exe -skipmovies -game honey +map start

So you don't need to stick to Addons being located in the Saved Games folder, where they originally download to.

I tested the Epic version with the Quake download I got via Legendary, which I had done on another PC, then compressed to a 7-Zip self extract executable, then extracted to a folder on my Wife's Windows 8.1 laptop.

As well as the addon 'honey', I also tested 'q64' and 'bbelief'.

P.S. Using the specific command-line I did get an error popup when trying with the Addons on my Win 7 32 Bit PC, so 64 Bit is required. If you want the music to play with the addon, just copy the 'music' folder to the addon folder.

i.e. D:\Games\Quake\q64\music

Sweet! You might want to open a thread about this in the Quake subforum, so it doesn't get hidden away in this thread.

Good idea, and I will do a link back here.
Easy to miss, but there finally was a news post for this two days ago: https://www.gog.com/en/news/bethesda_focus_entertainment_and_ubisoft_have_joined_the_winter_sale_alongside_the_quake_enhanced_update

Thank you - though it's a bit late for us, we've bought it elsewhere long ago (in addition to the original retail copy I bought in the year dot)

Timboli: I'm tempted to go the pirate route, just to get what I've paid for, and that is ridiculous and should never need to be.
That right there describes why I'm so vehemently anti-DRM. Pirated software should NEVER work better than purchased software, EVER - but DRM does just that.

Couldn't agree more, and luckily it came to GOG, and all the issue of gaining the Addons that I'd had with both the Epic and Steam versions disappeared. But then maybe, it was also because I was using Windows 11 and not Windows 8.1. Not that that should have mattered, but I am guessing the Bethesda connect code requires Windows 10 at least, which in a way is another form of DRM. I wonder how Linux users fared, using Wine etc, could they get the Addons?
65% off, at £2.79 I'm honestly tempted. More by anti-Steam attitude than pro-GOG though (pro-GOG attitude suffered a long and painful beating in recent years).
I would personally go for Quake Epsilon, it's better than the official "remaster".
