Charge up for adventure!

Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure, the modern installment of the classic series, in which the PC gaming's iconic private investigator returns with his fedora, trenchcoat, glorious Full-Motion Video camp, and--who could expect that--amnesia, is now available 10% off for pre-orders on GOG.com. That's $17.99 <s>until April 22</s> until May 7, when the game is expected to arrive. Pre-ordering on GOG.com yields you a special bonus in the form of the game's full soundtrack and one classic Tex Murphy game of your choice!

In Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure the classic adventure hero wakes up--disoriented and head pounding--on the fire escape outside his office atop the Ritz Hotel. Another typical morning for the last of the old-school detectives. Except it isn’t. What starts out as the worst hangover in history becomes a baffling nightmare: something--or someone--has erased Tex’s memory of the past seven years. Motivated by lost love, revenge, and the world’s strongest coffee blend, Tex must retrace his own steps into a maze of unsolved murders, hidden agendas, and lost technologies of Nikola Tesla. Only by solving the mysteries of his past can Tex hope to regain his memory in time to restore what’s been lost and stop a terrifying future.

If you missed Tex, make sure to pre-order Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure on GOG.com, for only $17.99. You'll get instant access to the game's soundtrack (both MP3 and FLAC format), and a special gift-code allowing you to redeem one classic Tex Murphy game of your choice will be sent to you via e-mail by the end of the week. This special pre-order offer lasts <s>until April 22</s> until May 7, when the game is (currently) scheduled for launch.

EDIT:
As per Big Finish Games' statement, the release of Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure is postponed to allow the developer some more fine-polishing of the anticipated game. The current expected release date is May 7, 2014. We're sorry if this delay causes you any inconvenience!

PimPamPet: I couldn't resist the temptation, I've waited for this one far too long. Played through the demo in about an hour. It's really really cool, the 22nd can't come soon enough! I am a bit baffled that they released this demo though, I thought it was supposed to be a backer exclusive? According to a poster on the Big Finish forums, it is almost identical to the "beta" that was given out to backers a little while ago.

Regardless, it did what it was presumably supposed to do: make me even more excited to play the full thing! This and Journeyman Project coming to GOG on the same day makes me a very happy camper indeed.
How good does the FMV/CG stuff look full-screen?

The in-game graphics aren't exactly AAA quality, but they get the job done quite well. The FMV, though, looks absolutely glorious. I'd say Blu-ray quality. (It's supposed to be "2K resolution", not sure what that means though. All I know is, it looks fantastic.) The CG is pretty good. But you can see some of that stuff in the trailer if you're curious.
All in all the demo looks pretty damn good. Despite the realtime graphics aren't in the AAA class, they do look nice and very atmospheric. The FMV quality is superb and I like the new UI quite a bit. After you learn how to use it, it's relatively intuitive.

I agree about the UI, at first I didn't like it at all, but after playing a bit I realized it is indeed very much intuitive.
My only gripe is that combining items seems a bit clunky, hopefully they'll have a chance to fix that in the next game (*crossing fingers*)

I'm a bit baffled by the demo myself.

It's great to get the older fans even more excited for a new Tex Murphy. Hell, I had some trouble clicking "download demo", I was so excited.

I know they don't want to spoil anything before release, but it's kind of baffling being dumped in without really knowing what's going on. Dunno what newcomers to the series are going to make of it.

The FMV and "examine" responses are classic Tex and make me deliriously happy to see new stuff. The in-game graphics are fine, some of the environmental stuff's not 3D like some people might expect, but I kinda like it since it brings back memories of the older titles.

The UI on the other hand....I'm a bit ambivalent on.

I know they had to modernize to be successful, but...I kinda miss the flexibility the old system gave. Doesn't seem to be an easy way to flip between "take" and "examine", without having to go into the pop-up radial, and I guess the on/off "use" is taking over for "move" as well.

Little curious as to how the absence of adjusting eye-level is going to work with the search/hide puzzles the series as had, but...

Over all, I'm very happy with what's coming my way. Next 12 days will be like waiting for Christmas when I was little again.
Will the demo be released for non-steam people as well? I just want to buy this but don't know if my rig runs it.

There are keyboard shortcuts:
Space - look
Tab/X - open/close the radial (trigger)
Q - Open Inventory
E - Use
F - Flashlight

I miss the adjusting eye-level as well...

Once installed through Steam the demo can be run without the steam client, so why not try it?
Pre-ordered, tried the demo. Seems good enough, also got my free game without any waiting. Nice.

Bit of stuttering but seems pretty solid, no vsync trouble like those old ones ^^ and pretty intuitive controls. =)
