Get your gory kicks, like it's 1996!

STRAFE®, a fast-paced, roguelike first-person shooter with plenty of guts, gusto, and gung-ho attitude, is now available for pre-order, DRM-free on GOG.com!

The monsters are charging you in droves, your weapons are becoming more and more ridiculous, and the levels rearrange themselves every time you die. Or maybe not - it's hard to tell when there's so much blood spatter in your eyes. But who needs a map, when you've got wicked instincts and insane mobility?

Watch the trailer.

Looks good and I'm definitely getting this once i get my i7, but more importantly why does a quake esq. game need 8 gigs of ram and an i5??? for something that looks oldschool it sure needs a mountain of hardware to run???

QUESTIONMARKS
What is with the "procedurally generated" nowadays, does no-one have the time to design and build actual levels (yep looking at you Shadow Warrior 2)? This and the fact it looks "minecraft"y put me off straightaway.

Why is this a pre-order? What's the point?

I'm glad you posted this. Watching the video, in no way did I think my pc wouldn't run this. I would have been wrong...and my computer isn't even that old. Thanks for saving me the cash.

Recommended system if you want to play at 60 fps is a i3 CPU, Geforce 460 and 6 GB ram. Doesn't sound very high to me.

The release date is wrong. The game will be available at the 9. Mai 2017 and GOG customers don't get the pre order DLC. The pre order dlc is only for steam customers.

Exactly. That's what offends me the most about a lot of these "retro-styled" games. They'll have lacklustre or mediocre "retro" style graphics, yet have absurd system requirements.

The answer of course is that the game devs likely used an engine like Unreal or Gamebryo, with likely some other middleware involved too.

I've seen that gameplay and graphic, or something very similar, somewhere before. Was there a demo?

This. Also, I don't remember the minecraft look and randomly generated levels to be the staples of FPS genre in the 90s, so the old-school nostalgia marketing is really confusing to me. It's like they don't really know which indie bandwagon they want to jump on.
Seeing as how roguelike FPS is a genre that extremely rarely produces anything worthwhile, I don't think I will pre-order.
Even with all the amazing incentives this offers.

Someone posted a video here a while back. I think.

Looks like fun. Gonna have to see how the DLC game shakes out, plus I barely have time to play these days. Curious to see how the roguelike bit is implemenred, too.

Replayability, unpredictability. Done poorly, it's barren and repetitive. Done well, it extends gameplay far beyond what you can get from playing the same map over and over.
