this, not in but first thing that comes to mind for me is Mrs. Komenski, my very favorite teacher, 3rd grade. she was so loving, cheerful, often sang and made us perogies. wonderful person, tried to teach us polish but i cant remember it, but that bonding experience had a lasting impression for me of poles in general

Are the perogies served in the States anything like the ones in Poland, or is it a bastardization?

i guess it would depend on who makes them, if its a family recipe vs mass produced, not having ever had a 'real' one I couldnt tell you but the ones ive tried from the store are not very good, very bland and pasty, which im sure they are not supposed to taste like

When I think of "Poland", first thing to come to my mind is the image of the former pope, Karol Wojtyla, who remained pope quite a long time, more than 26 years.
Second thing to come to my mind is the Polish's opposition to the EU about opening the borders to let anybody come in.

I complained of no luck? Must have been years ago, when indeed I could say that I hadn't really won anything, but on GOG I had quite a lot, and actually relatively recently in a couple of other places too, definitely can't complain anymore when it comes to such contests (in other matters though, oh boy... :/).
