Hi everyone,

I will soon buy a Nintendo Switch. My PC starts showing it's age, and mondern PC gaming is not that attractive for me anymore. I was long considering to get a console, to complement my PC gaming, and finally decided on getting a Switch. I am just waiting for a good deal.

I already know two games that i will definetly get:

- New Super Mario Brothers
- Octopath Travellers

I am on the fence regarding Super Mario Oddyssey (i did not like Mario64 at all) and Zelda (i hate the concept of the durability system).

Other games i am considering:

- Dragon Quest Builders
- Rune Factory 5, when it is released

I will (at least at first) not be getting any indy titles that are also available on PC. Those i would rather play on the PC.
I prefer games that are available as cartridge.

So, what single player games can you recommend?

Once you have your Switch, invest some Euros in a big enough SD card, insert that card into your Switch before you install anything, then just go to the online store...hundreds of games with videos and descriptions regarding the number of players available.
I would not go for cartridges only - too few games available, compared to the online-shop, and you'll have to download any patches, etc, anyway.
There are several reasons why i would prefer cartridges:

- I already have way to may games. Digital purchases just make it almost too easy to buy more. Having something tangible helps controlling that. Similar to card vs. cash
- I try to avoid anything account bound as far as possible. That is one reason why I dislike the current state of PC gaming. On PC that battle is lost, but maybe not on console just yet. I don't know if it is feasible, but if i can i would not even go online with the switch once.
- My internet connection sucks. Big-time. That plays into another reason i am not content with current PC gaming. The need for bigger and more frequent patches sucks.

I know that this limits my available selection. But having seen even several indy games (Stardew Valley, Dead Cells, and more i don't remember) available as cartridge in local stores, i am honestly not concerned by that limitation. And as i said, indies would not be my focus anyway, and i would expect every mainline nintendo game to be available on cartridge anyway.

I hate to break it to you, but this has become common with every console now, too, including the Switch.
I'm not a fan of 3D Mario and still really enjoyed Super Mario Odyssey (I never played 3D World but 3D Land is by far the best 3D Mario I have ever seen). It's a celebration of all things Mario really, and there are so many moons you can just skip the collectathon side of things and still be moving along in the story (obviously that would make the game pretty short, but still awesome). And even hating the whole "getting moons" and such, I've got every single one.

Others games, not necessarily "single player" but perfectly enjoyable as such (I don't game online and the only local co-op I have is with my wife who doesn't really like games... so, great for single player):

-Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
-New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (which I see you're getting: remember to play Luigi U after the campaign, the same world map but every level is new and harder and faster).
-Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (unless you played it on Wii U, of course...)
-Rayman Legends (unless you already played it on PC)
-Doom & Wolfenstein II (if your PC can't run them, is a perfectly valid option)
-Fitness Boxing (yeah, I know... I actually only have the demo, but I'm so desperate for a "Switch Sports" game that I had to try it... and actually really like the game... great for a simple "work out" shadow boxing)

Hope you enjoy your "soon to be" new Switch. I know I am.

PS: I'm actually getting everything digital and even some indies I double dip (like Sine Mora). It's the best console I had, after the 3DS (just give Mario Maker, Luigi's Mansion and a "not open world" Zelda and that's it... Would love a NES Remix kinda game too...).

Ranayna: Zelda (i hate the concept of the durability system).
The durability issue is mostly consigned to the early-game, as is more of a symptom of the game's poor loot and item balance. The early-game gear is so stupidly underpowered that it takes dozens of hits even to kill most types of monsters, meaning you end up wearing out your weapons very quickly while fighting common enemies. Those early-game enemies, in turn, drop absolute garbage for loot. There is no point in fighting monsters in the early-game since you literally get better item drops from hunting or foraging than fighting monsters. The game basically trains you to avoid combat unless you can sneak attack a lone enemy for an instant take-down. However, once you reach the late-game you'll be cleaving through monster mobs like they're hot butter, and the loot drops become so incredibly generous that durability ceases to be an issue.

The game's at its finest when you're exploring around the open world. Combat is not its area of strength.
Tales of Vesperia
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Octopath Traveler
Astral Chain
Final Fantasy VII

Not yet, the release date is August 30, 2019 ^_^
I wouldn't recommend a game that is not out, and we don't even know how it's going to play. Two characters at the same time "alla Brothers" or one AI controlled? Is it forced co-op? We know nothing about it. But Astral Chain DOES look interesting. I'll wait and see how it turns out.

There is no co-op, they ruled that out, and I'm expecting it will be a mostly AI companion who you will likely be able to issue simple commands to.

This is Platinum Games though, with a Japanese publisher behind them, and in this situation they have never made anything less than fantastic, so recommending this game is a very, very safe bet.

I'd also like to add my recommendations for the OP for:

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle
Bayonetta 1 & 2 (how the hell am I the first to recommend these?)
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Okami HD

puyo puyo tetris switch!!!!!!

This game is great for puzzle lovers, and people who still love Tetris and the DR. Mario series as I do. I know you can find this game dirt cheap now in the 20 dollar range and it's worth every penny.
If you've waited so long already, you might want to wait for a bit longer, just to see what the upcoming revision brings. Apparently two new Switches are getting released. Who knows, better battery life, better screen, there are even rumors of a higher frequency CPU/GPU combo. At the very least the prices should drop slightly once the newer models get released.
Thank you for all your suggestions :)

What about the Disgea Series? I saw I think part 1, and as well part 5. Are those any good?

I will not wait until the supposedly new models are released. At the moment, as far as i know, these are just rumors. I wait until i can get a good deal, and then buy, likely before easter.

I have just two more questions about downloads.
The first, I likely know the answer to already, I just want confirmation: When a game patch is downloaded, that is stored and installed on the Console itself, and not on the game cardridge, right?
Second question: If I just want to download a patch for a game, or a new firmware for the console, do I need an account, or does that work without setting anything up?
