I'm at least as dumb as you are. I lost a Civ III game on Chieftain difficulty - that's the lowest possible - while I had the strongest nation and were already winning. I just built the UN and was like: Let's shorten the game and finish with a diplomatic victory. So I choose the election, voted for me and ... lost the election and the game...
