UhuruNUru: They missed one announcement

GOG is now a 2nd rate Steam Clone.

If I wanted to use the Steam Client, I'd get all my games on Steam.

Choice ? We have no choice here
Optional ? We have no option here

They said Galaxy was Optional
avatar
DreamedArtist: And it is optional, You do not need the site nor galaxy to play any of the games... remember "OPTIONAL CLIENT"

you can use the client if you want to get those achievements that make you feel like you're accomplishing something you are not and better interaction with friends and management of content on the client, that's about it.
The sites not Optional I need to use the site to buy games, when the site is the same as galaxy client though technically "The Client" is optional, in reality whats the difference.

It's just like Steams client/website they are essentially identical though technically you must use the Steam client to obtain the game.

Here I must use the site or client to get the game, thats the only difference.
They have the same functionality and appearance, I must use one or the other to get my GOG games/update.
So it's a semantic choice between identical twins and not really a choice at all.

NO SHIT you need the site to purchase that game like any other online retail shop... LOL

at the end of the day you have steam that needs to be installed on the pc to play the games which is annoying and gog that does not so choose your pick please move on with this

take care and enjoy playing some games.
I like the new look but I never used the manual sorting option. It seems to be buggy though, I tried to filter by genre:Strategy and it did not list Battle Isles. It might have missed other but it's the one I noticed as itis one of the first game (if not the first) I bought here so it should have been at the end of the list.

I would like the option to directly go to a page since I have 7 pages of games.

I haven't tried adding tags but this is definitively something I'll use.
On the bright side, "Purchase Date" seems to work correctly again. Some time back even before the unbundling, sorting by purchase date put a third of my games into some weird, random order.

Coelocanth: I'm not a fan of the new shelf (it damned near makes my eyes bleed), but if you look to the far right, there's a Tags tab. Go to that and click on the Manage Tags dropdown. You can create your own tags. A pain in the ass, but it does give you the ability to essentially manually sort again.
Please, share your wisdom, how can one use tags to sort their entire game collection?

And yes, the new style is painful to the eyes.

wolfsrain: It's open beta for everyone, so we are the guinea pigs right now. Let's hope that the serious outcries won't be swallowed by the "gimme achievements, trading cards, gems and other useless stuff that steam has...
I must have missed something - is the site in open beta? We're talking about the account system on the site, not the Galaxy client.

Did you just miss the announcements recently, or did you miss them and were under a rock?

Edit: Why the crap does the OP have a high rated post? Why is the post about 'second rate steam clone' also have high rated?

Were people really that OCD/hung up on organizing their games?

Well I think what Coelocanth, was meaning that you can assign tag to your games, ( so as to easier find stuff)

by clicking on the downward arrow on each game ticket and selecting assign tags, you can select tag to attached to that game

Also if you click option to mange tags you can add your own tags,( i.e FPS RTS ROLEPLAY or what every you want ) this way you can then say want to look through FPS (as an example ) then select the tag option in the top and then only those games with that tag will appear. I know there is already option for genre type, shooter but I just used that for an example of what you could do with the tags off the top of my head. It not going to give you a perfect liner organisation but will allow you to sort and collect your collection in your own way .

hope that helps just started playing with it my self so not fully sure of how I will use it yet ( and will take a bit to tag all the games)

hope that helps

Honestly all I have to say about all the recent changes and new developments on GOG is:

"FRIEND" my foot up your ass, and #tag it (#Ass #Foot #Up) while You CHAT with your proctologist.

The whole site, including my library and wishlist, is now ugly and clunky as shit, everywhere I look there is Galaxy, entirely useless to me but begging to be used, like having a pile of HD DVD's dying on my front lawn, looking at me with puppy dog eyes. At least now I have the option to "friend" people I don't even know, so that's something I guess!

I'm genuinely curious what kind of screen people claimin' that new layout "melt thair eyes" are using. Something that you bought straight form Strielok after he returned from Zone?
Maybe it's not overly aestheticaly captivating (but de gustibus... etc) but I, for one, value it's clarity and more efficent 'search' features.

As ZalasFears said, you have to tag each game with your own choice of tag. You can use the ones GOG provided or create your own. As I noted, it's a pain in the ass because you have to tag every game, but it should work similar to manual sorting. I haven't tested it though.

Thanks for chiming in.

What you describe falls under "filtering" and "searching", which is a use of tags I knew about, but it is not sorting one's complete collection.

See above. Your comment makes it sound like it can be used to sort/ order one's game collection, but I don't think it's actually possible.
I even asked Chamb about it, but he did not answer.

Moan, moan, moan. I don't intend to use GOG Galaxy or any of the social features and I can perfectly ignore them. They are hardly 'in your face' aside from the temporary promotions. I like the options the new My Account page brings and so far there isn't any reason to assume that GOG.com would not change course in some areas due to popular feedback.

Nirth: If anyone wants back the wooden library I suggest Darkadia game library site. You'll have to fill in all your games manually but I broke it down to perhaps 50 games a day and it only took a few days until I was done.
Thanks for sharing. :)
Darkadia hasn't got a manual sorting function, though. Or am I missing something?

Eitot: Moan, moan, moan.
Damn straight. I moan, because it all bothers me. You see, I used to really love GOG, because at a time when I felt like the whole gaming industry left me behind (and games were always a big part of my life) I found GOG to be a safe haven from all the DRM, clients, social bullshit, achievements, DLCs and so on and so forth. And now everything but DRM (at least we have been spared that so far) has found it's way here. Yes, I can ignore it, but the fact is, it used to be a place where I did not have to ignore stuff to like it, and that was awesome.

Also, I still don't like the design of the site, and I hate the fact that my Account is now the same boring, bland, clunky "mobile app" looking crap.

So yeah, I moan. After all, I leave my money here. I plan to keep doing so. So I have the right to complain and have my say.
