wcdeadpool: "Is MY REWARDS also available on the local version of Cyberpunk 2077 — which can be downloaded via GOG and installed separately from GOG GALAXY?

Because MY REWARDS requires an internet connection, the local version of Cyberpunk 2077 that you can download via GOG will not support MY REWARDS."

I think you can download some of the digital goodies from your account (OST,books...). The extra clothes and weapons will require an internet connection. I seriously hope GOG will change that requirement. Because it is extremely disappointing to see the DRM-free version being made inferior on purpose ( anyone still remember that FCKDRM campaign...lol)
This stuff sounds like exactly the kind of thing that's sadly going to re-incentivise piracy again (I'll give it 5 hours post launch before someone works out where the "Not DRM'd (tm) Online Only Bonus Content" files are, zips them up and uploads them for offline installer users... So people who illegally download the game will get 100% of content, whilst people who legally buy it but don't want Galaxy will get only 99%. It's like there's some group learning disability where everyone at GOG forgot their own previous interviews:-

Adam Oldakowski, Managing Director of GOG.com, and Michal Kicinski, CEO of CD Projekt, were kind enough to talk to us following the launch of GOG:-

"In my opinion, management spends way too much time in business discussions and not nearly enough listening to customers' comments. The DRM-free aspect of GOG.com is one of our main features and we're really proud of it. The games we offer are probably already easy to get on torrent sites, but we believe gamers would prefer to buy their products legitimately than pirate them. They just need a good reason to buy those games and we give them those reasons by selling games at low prices, optimized to run on modern operating systems and adding great bonus materials.

I'm not surprised that people rebel. And this rebellion is surely increasing piracy. It all works on a simple rule: if I'm not respected, and you're trying to make my life more difficult, then in return I won't respect your work, and I'll make your life more difficult. It's just easier to buy a game at GOG.com, pay a small amount for it, get lots of cool additional stuff and be a part of a great community of gamers. This is another example of positive motivation which convinced people to give up pirated games. I really believe that more and more companies will consider positive motivation as a way to fight piracy, rather than making gamers' lives more difficult and frightening them".

Indeed, the ideals and convictions behind them that GOG professed when it was young were all abandoned, one by one. DRM-free was the last. Now none are left. I actually do believe that the founding members of GOG believed in the ideals they claimed to uphold. But there was so much turnover that hardly no idealist is left. They either had to conform to the marketing-dominated culture of a growing business or they left.

So what we are left with is another little Steam-copycat. No, Galaxy is not going to stay optional forever. It already isn't 100%.

Disappointing, yes. But not surprising anymore.

The above quote snippet also sadly sounds like GOG in general as far as the last few years have been concerned. It is one of those cases of if they actually give a damn anymore...

It is a great shame that GOG seem to have stopped listening to their customers. It seems they have grown large enough that they feel they no longer need to (and the customers aren't telling them what they want to hear).

As if we needed any more proof that GOG is now run by dishonest sellouts who care not one red cent about anyone who doesn't want to consume their client.

This has gotten so far out of hand it's insane...

Just DO NOT buy the games. They want your/our money. They do not get it anymore until the problem is solved. Quite simple. Since multiplayer was patched in later I must keep "No Man's Sky", but all other games? NOPE GOG. No chance. Even "Cyberpunk"...

Exactly. Cyberpunk was on my wishlist since it was announced. I have already stopped buying on GOG due to the Absolver/No Man's Sky debacle. But I was considering getting Cyberpunk when it would be eventually released on some actually DRM-free store. However, since it was released with DRM, I won't buy it.

Real DRM free games I will still buy here. But others? Nope. And CD Project Red is no exlusion there. No money for "Cyberpunk", if not DRM free. Case closed. Bought "Texas Hold 'em" and "Knights of the Chalice" as a replacement. :)

SCPM: In case anyone was wondering about Cyberpunk 2077's special in-game items:
Q: Is MY REWARDS also available on the local version of Cyberpunk 2077 — which can be downloaded via GOG and installed separately from GOG GALAXY?

A: Because MY REWARDS requires an internet connection, the local version of Cyberpunk 2077 that you can download via GOG will not support MY REWARDS.

Well then, I guess this clears up once and for all what GOG's going to do about No Man's Sky, and why Chandra was never to be heard of again after reaching out to the devs.

Respectfully, I don't think it's this easy. There are too many people, either here on this site already, or elsewhere and viewed by GOG as a potential audience, who don't care about DRM or other such bad practices. And, anecdotally, I have curbed my buying habits on this site drastically, bought nothing recently, only to keep witnessing these practices get worse and worse.

Yes, it seems that we are not enough anymore to make GOG reconsider. Still, that won't stop me from trying. I won't buy my games here anymore and rather support zoom-platform.com or other actually DRM-free platforms.

Oh I hear you. I'm really disappointed in this Cyberpunk news on top of the already unacceptable downward trend. I knew deep down they'd do something like this but didn't want to believe it. I'll hang around and voice my objections I guess. And get some updates for my games occasionally, provided I can vet them via the "What did just update" topic, to make sure the new offline installers haven't been messed up by Galaxy feature updates.

I am here for DRM-free content. No DRM-free content anymore, I am out of here. And I will not go to Zoom. If GOG fails, I consider DRM-free shops to have failed completely. Then I will not buy anything anymore. Quite simple.

So I will remain buying stuff here, but not their OWN DRM-pro titles anymore. Ironically, where they get the most money from.

Bought "Telltale Texas Hold 'em" and "Knights of the Chalice" today. Will buy such titles, if without DRM. I support their real DRM-free titles. If they do not make enough money with those? Their problem. Not mine.

That's a very fair point. When I refunded my Cyberpunk preorder months ago (because I was concerned about the direction they were going in terms of similar practices) and got GOG wallet funds back, I specifically put them towards games here that I felt offered a complete experience with no DRM-like schemes.

This DRM-in-Cyberpunk scandal also deserves its own separate standalone thread.
