Well here is a fun update to this entire situation, I am upset about the (Must be online) aspect of the game for some features to work so I go out and try to put a nice spin on thing. I go out and buy a nice new HD monitor, a big curved thing like my wife has figuring that this would help smooth things out.

I had recently in no man's sky found the most beautiful planet, temperature was temperate, sentinels were mild, flora abundant, fauna abundant and minerals and all the good stuff in nice giant nodes begging to be harvested. As I land on the planet I find a transmission tower right off that leads me to a distress beacon and a nice new ship that was a fair upgrade from what I had. This planet more then any other showed how beautiful a game this could be.

It had creatures flying in the air, wonderful golden creatures that looked like long snakes with dragon heads, I named then GaiKing from a very old cartoon series. Found many other wonders both on land and below water. The critters in the water were also in great numbers so I made sure to name them as well as all other things on this planet that could be best described as a paradise.

I then think to myself A bigger monitor could only make things better so I buy a beast but not until after I took the time to .RAR my save game not once but three times, each after several times the game said saving progress. I did this due to other times in game being back stepped in time and losing so much. This time the planet was divine.

I log in and go through all the GoG galaxy hoops like a good little minion and I find myself not on my nice new world but on a Atlas station about 12 hours back........

So I do not get angry as yet, I unzip my save folder with happy thoughts of getting back to this wonder of a world and dealing with the online issues in a more mellow manner and NOTHING I could do would put me back on that world, it was as if all that time and effort I put into naming things was for nothing.

Here I post with these thoughts, I could have waited a much longer time for a better tested game, one that the play testers (whoever they were) did a better job. Yes yes this is not the first game to be released with many bugs, many have in the past and had said bugs fixed but I cannot say I have high faith this time around. Too many shady things have I read, too many things were left out when they were talking all about this game.

Sean Murray.......... you has a wonderful idea when you made this game, splendid concept, gorgeous art right down the the fabulous star ship that all look like they were out of the old Terran Trade Authority books.

But then I think you folded to the people who feel a need for every game to be online or have online features like achievements and you caved and made this coded abomination of a great concept with awe inspiring art and stories only to have it turn into a transporter accident.

If any one find my words harsh then I am sorry, I give much praise to this game for art, story and concept. But your initial product has garbage mechanics that punish players but not only demanding they play online or lose important NON NAMING feature.

I said too much as it is, unless there are some serious changes I think I will just chalk this up as a loss. Bought the Explorers edition not for the DLC ship but for the physical items and while the ridiculous delay in getting those items is iam8bits fault for poor planning it is the fault of Hello Games for not being honest about online requirements for game mechanics other them bragging rights for names.

Oddly, this is the one thing I've read about the game recently that actually makes me intrigued with it.

That aside, I don't know how the save system works, but a though occurs to me (I've read of your troubles in the other thread): sounds like you were on-line (and logged into Galaxy) when trying to restore those saves with that paradise world. Were you on-line (and logged into Galaxy) when you discovered and saved it? If not, maybe try restoring those saves when not logged into Galaxy? Just a thought.

I am quite sure the GoG Galaxy client was not running, I made sure I clicked exit in the system tray and checked carefully when I restored my save. The really sad part is in that save cache I can see all my game activity over last couple days. More importantly I can see the time on the files and know for sure it was saved as those files have the time stamp from just before supper. I was so paranoid that I would lose that world when I logged that I archived them at first with the Galaxy client running (And did not get any errors) and I also archived them after I closed the Galaxy client, and made sure the names of the archives were obvious as to which was which.

It did this to me before two other times so when I found this unbelievable world I did not want to lose such a treasure. I have played No Man's Sky for some serious hours since I first downloaded it from GoG, I am retired and have little else to do but game due to health reasons.

I have tried so many combinations to restore that save that I have no choice but to assume that the game at this time is totally FUBAR. It will take some serious work on their part to resolve this as I do not see the save issue as a hardware one. And I also wonder how this never cropped up for the play testers.

Bugs are expected in any game, but the only thing missing from my experience so far is the Star Ship Troopers theme song......

Again Shame on GoG for being part of a game that does not have full functionality without being shackled to a extra program that must have the net or not function. And I must say again I am not talking about naming issue.

Even with the GoG Galaxy client running and being able to use the Galactic Map properly I could only do it with my X-box controller on my PC as the keyboard would not activate the command at all. How could they have missed such a basic thing there ?

I may be wrong and out of line but so far my experience makes me think they were sloppy or just plain in a hurry and valued the PS4 console version more. I understand consoles are a big part of the gaming world but if I understand it correct this game started out as PC only, until Sony got their evil mits into things.

Sean Murray would be doing his reputation to game and company a great service if he would acknoledge more thing and not have a reply to us to "Make sure your steam client is up to date" Never any mention of the GoG release.

Well, you talked me out of wasting time on the game.
Another thing to that disapointed, I was no farther then 81 light years from my starter planet and I saw evidence of another player. A big Hullo to MaliciousDuck13, I do not know you but saw your marking for a while.I would rather have run in offline mode from the start but could not if I wanted proper navigation. So much for a huge world where Sean foolishly thought and promoted the idea that it would be rare if at all players bumped into each other.

If things stay this dim for the game I do hope a class action lawsuit ensues, on that I will be on board if this travesty of a game goes without proper patching. And again I have said the Art, concept and especially the star ships are over the top excellent. But the game overall pretty as it is just does not live up nor encourage me to play.

At least you did not buy into the $167.00 dollar explorers edition like myself. those folks at iam8bit are utterly lost in their follow through of getting the physical parts of the game (I wanted the die cast space ship for my collection) iam8bit says it will be 6-7 more weeks at least till I get what I paid for.

And on the iam8bit, this was my first and past experience with them as they seem to have no ability to read a email to them and not respond with something that is not part of my emails to them. I asked if I could get a refund as the game will be useless without the client from GoG and I really do not care if GoG closed my account permenently if it got me said refund. Pointing out to iam8bit that the physical materials of the explorers edition was months away and I wanted a refund prompted a reply from then of "We do not offer tech support for Hello Games, go talk to them.

I send a email to Hello Games to ask if they are aware of the issues I described very well and I was reminded to update my steam client........too busy to read and be efficient....too busy to have coded this game with care and had good play testers.

Unfortunately you (and me) seem to be in the minority on not wanting cloud everything. Pop over to wish list for galaxy, feature 2 is online saves. Someone posted an article on here recently where a dev stated drm would disappear soon as games become so embedded in the cloud the user would have no control anyways. Welcome to the glorious dawn.

wanting cloud saves and wanting exclusively cloud saves are two very different matters.

Sorry, yes we must tippy toe into the dystopian future. Hence why galaxy is "optional" for the moment. just leave it long enough until people are fed up with features not working...

That's more the norm in today's game sites, flog it to the public/suckers and fix it on the fly or wait until we see the problems. No offense infered to you.
elghinnfaer, if you haven't already, I'd try reinstalling the game and then try to load your game save. And check to see if it helps any of the other issues you've mentioned. If that doesn't help, give the patch a try when it finally shows up. If you're still having issues, see if you can get someone to give you a newer version of the game.

Good luck!

Get someone to give me a newer version of the game ? I bought the game, that someone would be Hello Games through GoG downloads.

And one of the many things I did to try and get my save to work was to re- install the game and try the save, I even went so far as to reinstall the game and copy the save over after I disabled my internet to make sure the game would not go online to try and do anything to invalidate my save.

The game is just too unstable right now for reliable saves of any type, and to be honest that combined with the fact I must have GoG Galaxy to navigate and only with a x-box controller mind you renders this game unplayable to me. I did not pay money to be a beta tester
Why would/do you need Galaxy for navigation?

Smannesman: Why would/do you need Galaxy for navigation?
He mentioned it in the No Man's Sky (GOG version) thread. His navigation does not work unless he logged into Galaxy.

Honestly, if there's ever grounds for refund on PC games, I think this guy should get one. He's tried multiple things to get his game to work, and it still doesn't function for him.

Hell, from what I've seen about the issues with this game, it's a prime example of caveat emptor.

That is one heck of a weird bug.
But yeah the game is way overpriced for what it is.
For 60 bucks I'd at least like both a GOG and a Steam key, but really it should've been 40.
It's sad for the devs and the customers unfortunately.
