So, I'm aware that a lot of GOG users don't like Nintendo because of DRM/corporate practices. I'm also aware that plenty of others love Nintendo games parallel to whatever feelings they have about Nintendo/DRM. So let's chat about the Switch.

I was one of the first people in the UK to play the Switch due to a preview event I attended, and getting that hands on look really sold me on the console. It's managed to supplant my 3DS XL, which has singlehandedly taken up thousands of hours of my life, so they're definitely doing something right. I like that the Switch continues the 3DS's indie catalogue, though some games are just far too expensive. Cheap indies have very much been the lifeblood for Nintendo consoles, allowing them the ability to work on their first/second-party titles without as much pressure to release games just so there's something to play. That was one of the core failings of the Wii U, too little too late.

I'm looking forward to a lot of releases, and it doesn't seem like the Switch is going anywhere. I'm honestly very glad it succeeded, because another failure might have taken Nintendo out of the home console market. For all that I have misgivings about them, I don't think Nintendo deserves to be Sega'd.
My daughter bought one as soon as she could get her hands on it. She loves it, and I must admit that while I thought it was probably one of the goofiest looking and silliest console designs I'd ever seen when it was first announced, I'm impressed with it. I don't use it, but I've watched my daughter with it and its portability and versatility are pretty impressive. There are also a number of titles that she really enjoys, so it was well worth the purchase for her.

Was curious since you mentioned she'd bought it, but in a way that suggested she still lived with you. Do you play many games together?

She's 16 and she bought a Switch?

A car never occurred to her? :P

Not that I can talk. I didn't even get a license until I was 18.

Poor you. Here you can't even get a driver's license until you are 18. I got mine when I was 19, closer to 20.

That's the odd thing I don't understand about US or A: you can get a driver's license at 16 and go to army at 18 (or earlier?), but you can't buy alcohol until you are like 55 or something. What's the age of consent in US, 70?`

Varies between 16, 17, and 18 by state. Mostly 16. I think it might be 14 in one of them?

Also, mid-20s, still don't have a driver's licence. Don't need one, and a car doesn't seem worthwhile.

Poor me? I chose not to. :P I didn't need one, I never left my room. Getting a license, or a car, seemed like a colossal waste of time and money for me.

And yeah, the age thing over here is beyond fucked up. :P
Yeah, I never got around to learning to drive either. Just doesn't seem enough of a priority to me.

But back on topic, yeah I recently got a Switch. The only Nintendo game I have on it is Mario Odyssey, the rest are indies (I bought Breath of the Wild on the Wii U).

I finally gave up on waiting for Axiom Verge on GOG and bought it on the Switch. I love it so far, apart from the fact that the confirm and cancel buttons are swapped in a way that can't be fixed by the controls menu. B is confirm and A is cancel and it drives me mad every time I open the damn menu.

Pssh. I'm 36 and I still don't have one. ;)

That's because I drive your lazy ass everywhere! :P
I'm ambivalent about the Switch. I never did care about the handhelds.
But I'm interested in the Dragon Quest Builders series and the Blaster Master remake/reboot. But i'm concerned about the longevity of the battery. I plan to treat it as home console if i get one. I don't care that much to take it to other places. Does the Switch dock keeps it powered up and don't use the battery?

The dock is really just a resolution switcher and plug port, it doesn't do all that much. When it's docked though you should be fine for battery, and that's true if you're just charging anyway. If you go from 0% and you've got like 3% battery you might encounter problems, but if you're not using it handheld you should be fine on that front.

My sister has one. Seems like a fine little console.
We played Mario Kart with these mini-controllers. Must be the tiniest controllers ever. But it was quite fun.
I will probably borrow the console for a while to play Zelda.
