adamhm: Once again thanks for your continuing promotion of Linux. You're really going way above and beyond!

Since I won something in your last giveaway, I doubted for a long time if I should be entering this one. But eh, I figure you appreciate more people writing to publishers more than you want to not give away games, and that I should just trust that you set the requirements of your giveaway as you want them to be. So, I'll be in for:

> Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun
> Wasteland 2 Director's Cut Digital Classic Edition
> Infinifactory
> Transistor
> The Bard's Tale
> Human: Fall Flat
> We Are The Dwarves

I got this very generic answer from Techland (I suspect only the first line has been custom-written for my question). My question was sent using this form: http://support.techland.pl/support/tickets/new
Still, maybe it'll have increased a counter somewhere?

Unfortunately, no official information on a potential Linux version on GOG is available at the moment. Make sure to subscribe to our social media profiles to obtain the latest news and updates as soon as they are revealed by our teams, please:

At the same time, we appreciate your feedback and it has been passed to our dev team. Keep in mind that some ideas might not be implemented with respect to our game.

Lastly, feel free to share your thoughts on our forum as well to help us improve the game further:

It'll at the very least show that there is demand & and hopefully convince them that it'll be worthwhile to bring the Linux versions here :)

Thanks for another great giveaway and your continuing support of Linux. Even though I mostly use Linux in a server environment and not at home for client systems I do like to keep my options open in case Microsoft screws up Windows even more. When support runs out on Windows 7 I'll see what comes next. IMO Windows 8 and 10 were huge steps back and are not worth installing.

I'm in for the these games:

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun
Infinifactory
Dungeons 2
Freedom Planet
X: Rebirth + Home of Light Complete Edition Upgrade
X3: Terran War Pack
X3: Reunion
Hotline Miami + Hotline Miami 2
Papers, Please
Bastion
Tower of Guns

I've just got an email from my friend with some more news. He warns me though that it's not a solid data but more like his own speculations based on incomplete information he was able to acquire... long story short it seems that some Linux games were optimized externally by Steam employees. And the decision makers are afraid that putting a Linux build on GOG may result in a lawsuit. My friend knows that it doesn't make much sense but he is afraid that his boss attitude may be "better safe than sorry". Sadly, he says he sees a lot of weird things like that in this company...
Wow adamhm, another impressive list!
I am still in the middle of going through Thief, but I will line up the possible next one from the following:

Hotline Miami + Hotline Miami 2
Sam & Max hit the road
Master of Orion 1 + 2
Legend of Grimrock.

Thank you again for the opportunity, and now I am off to write some emails to some publishers :)

I doubt that's really an issue as Valve haven't used such restrictive licensing before AFAIK - the last I heard they didn't even impose such restrictions on using the Source engine, but I can believe that some people responsible for arranging releases might be unsure about it & haven't bothered to actually look into it.

I know for certain that it isn't the case with these games at least:

Metro Redux series - these not being here is partly GOG's decision due to issues they encountered (not sure what kind of issues though, as the Steam versions run great for me).

Saints Row series - these were ported by VP; when VP were asked about bringing them here their response was that they hadn't been asked to prepare any builds for GOG by Deep Silver. Given its current state on Steam I expect SR2 would get rejected (it's *still* missing a lot of audio and has some performance/graphics issues even taking into account the original poor quality of the Windows release - it actually runs better in Wine) but SR3 is mostly stable and its performance while not great is reasonable, especially when compared to Wine.

Dust: An Elysian Tail - a build was prepared & submitted to GOG a little over 4 months ago. It's been waiting on some "red tape" to be cleared ever since then; no idea what's currently holding it up.

GOG is responsible for the Linux GOG builds according to GOG themselves.

Gydion: GOG is responsible for the Linux GOG builds according to GOG themselves.
That's essentially what I said, except that I don't consider GOG entirely responsible. If they encountered technical issues that are serious enough to withhold them from release and GOG are unable to fix those issues themselves, then the responsibility falls to Deep Silver/4A Games to fix them and provide working builds.

In this case GOG should also be contacted as they are the ones who were creating the GOG builds. Which is what I was trying to clarify. Presuming the issues aren't Galaxy related crap, hell even then, I agree the devs likely could help.

I'm quite sure GOG already know as this was a fairly big issue when they were released here. I tried asking them about this at the time and several times since, but to no avail - they won't even elaborate as to what exactly the issues are.

Aside from Firek's comment in the release thread stating that they held it back due to technical issues and Judas not being able to provide any more information, the only reply I've had from GOG about it has been the same generic copy+paste response that I've received many times before whenever I've asked about missing Linux builds.

Anyway if it's an issue that GOG can't fix themselves then it isn't going to make any difference however many times we ask them and we're better off focusing on Deep Silver and/or 4A Games instead, as they definitely have the means to actually do something about it.

Hi there,

today i sent an e-mail to Deep Silver (regarding the Saints Row and Metro series). I described the situation and took a few ideas from the posts here.
As soon as i get a written reply, i will send you a rough translation. (I hope it won't be a
generic copy+paste response).
