Hello, what do you think about this config?
How's the cpu-mobo-ram combo? Any problems with the rest? Linux compatibility?
I'd like to finally abandon my 10-years-old ancient single-core Pc O_o'

(ignore the prices, they are in € and for the italian Amazon)
- case Corsair Mid-Tower Carbide 500R -- EUR 134,90 --> I'm also considering the more silent Fractal Design Define R5
- PSU eVGA SuperNOVA 650 G1 650 Watt -- EUR 103,55
- CPU Intel Box Core Processor i5-6600 -- EUR 233,29 --> wait, it uses Trusted Computing!?
- mobo Asus Z170 Pro Gaming Intel 1151, DDR4 -- EUR 130,19 -->H versions aren't great (eg: less ports,connectors)
- RAM Kingston HyperX Fury Kit Memory DDR4, 16 GB 2133, 2x8 GB -- EUR 101,90
- Cooler Master Hyper 212EVO -- EUR 38,67
- Samsung MZ-7KE128BW SSD 850 PRO, 128 GB, 2.5" SATA III -- EUR 93,24 --> changed to SSD 850 EVO 250Gb
- Western Digital WD10EZEX Caviar BLUE HardDisk SATA 1 TB, 64MB Cache, OEM -- EUR 54,99

A new monitor and a GTX 980 will have to wait, sadly.
For the SO, I've decided to switch to Linux Mint. Farewell MS :'(
EDIT: LM doesn't seem yet ready for Skylake. I'll have to rely on Win7..

There is a segate hard disk with the same spec cheaper

Thanks Gnostic, but my prices are in € and I trust WD a lot as my HDDs by them never failed : )
I'm mainly worried about the cpu-mobo-ram combo and if other pieces have problems I'm unaware of.

That's a pretty big upgrade. :P

Also, avoid the GTX 900 series. Wait for Pascal to come out or get an AMD 300 series like a 390 or Fury. You'll be happier. Pascal will fix the async computing problems and provide some architecture enhancements. If you ignore me anyway then let me know what you want for that Rainbow Six Siege code. Still need to pick one up off of someone. :>

Yes lol. I cannot stand the old sluggish non-HD pc anymore. It's also down to a mere 1Gb now, after bsods.
It has really resisted a lot, though.
Thanks for the precious info about the GPUs. I hope they'll all lower in prices, however.

Eh? What code O_o
Since you are planning on switching to Linux, keep in mind that those surround sound stuff you mentioned works only through motherboard developer's software (which is Windows-only).

Taking this into account it is better (for Linux people) to choose mobo, which has better hardware, more plugs for case coolers, better capacitors, etc etc.

PS: is it me, or new Skylake CPU's are overpriced now?

This will be painful T_T
What else is incompatible\unsupported in that build?

Are they? Here they don't seem to cost much more than the previous ones.

GTX 980 comes with a Rainbow Six Siege or Assassin's Creed: Syndicate code (I don't know if it`s Steam or Origin, Assassin's Creed is Uplay for sure).

Aaah. So they bring the devil with them :P
Where's that Witcher3 code instead :'(
@phaolo: You could go for Z170 chipset since its small price difference between H170 and you get some extra stuff. I don't think you need Cooler Master Hyper 212EVO since you won't be overclocking your CPU and i5-6600 comes with stock cooler which does the job quite well. I would go for Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB instead of Pro 128 GB, i doubt its big price difference. That pc case is too expensive for my taste, i'd pay 70-80 euros max for pc case. Try to grab that DDR4 memory on 2400 MHz instead of 2133.

This build is perfectly fine. The only thing you'll miss under Linux is some stupid sound effects, controlled by windows-only software. :)

EDIT: ASUS AI Suite is another windows-only software. So, if you'll want to control you fans, you'll have to seek another way to do it. Never bothered to do it myself. Also, avoid motherboards with Killer Ethernet adapters, because they too use Windows-only apps to control it and under Linux they'll behave worse than Realtek, not mentioning Intel (which is best LAN option).

So you're going to use the integrated graphics for a while? Or did I miss the GPU in your listing?

PainOfSalvation:
Yeah, that's what had me curious. Seems like a pretty potent rig to be saddled with integrated graphics for a while. Then again, seen quite a number of posts saying that the newest version is actually pretty good.

To the OP: curious to know your impressions of the graphics capabilities built into the chip, and also your before-and-after impressions once you get the discrete GPU.
Honestly, if your budget is maxed, I'd drop either the SSD or the hard drive (don't use both), and buy at least a midrange graphics card. Since you're upgrading from such an old machine, any modern HD is going to boot lightning-fast compared to what you're used to. You will feel the want of the graphics card far more keenly than the lack of SSD. Save up for the SSD later.
