Dark_art_: It should be compatible with your current board with very little to no performance penalty.

Nothing official yet but scaling the current lineup, it should sit below 200€ with performance (3x the numer of cores the 1050ti has) probably similar to a 2060.
Thanks, that was enlightening :) I will definitely wait until this series is released then.

Panaias: P.S. My current graphics card is a GeForce GT 730 - Silent - 2GB, so you can imagine that all these years I've been gaming with a media player :)

Dark_art_: Is not that bad (the gddr5 version) and the prove is that you are using it :)
The 1050Ti is still a very good card but kinda overpriced at 165€.
The Rx550 is on level with the gt1030. Not great but usabe, 90€ is a bit steep though.

I'm currently building a pc, while looking for a GPU, some people said they will receive small batches in 2-4weeks, while others mention that the market will normalize no sooner than April/May. Since older cards are not produced anymore there will be very few options.

I would wait for the new 3050 cards wich are a big step up in performance and the price shouldn't be too far from the 165€ the 1050Ti (wich is 4 or 5 years old).
Had the same hopes for the 3060 TI; should not be that far from the 250 € - 290 € mark. :P

Thankfully my 1060 still works and there is no game in sight that makes me want to switch. Still a bit annoying though.

Tallima: What do you need it for?

If playing fancy new games, you'll save a bundle getting something like Stadia or GeForce Now if available in your area.

If you need it, you'll have to get whatever you can afford. But it'll be a bad time to buy one for another year or so, I'd imagine.
avatar
Panaias: I need it mainly for adventure games and metroidvanias (I usually don't play other games). So, in general, my requirements are not sky high. Besides games, I could use the extra performance for the occasional OpenGL coding, but still with no super requirements.

As for game streaming, I'm completely against it. It will kill gaming as we know it, but this is a discussion for another thread :)
In that case and if you don't plan a new rig in the next 4-5y I would go for a 1050 TI.

or the 3050 if it get to that price range. But I do not think it will.

Unless Nvidia does something to drastically ramp up production, I think the release will not be backed up by much stock, as we've seen with the other cards from the 3000 lineup. If you're looking for something in the first half of the year, perhaps it's not worth waiting for the new cards, especially if you're happy with the performance older yet available models can give you.

I looked up some articles about the 3050 and there is much speculation and a few question marks, indeed.
I think I'll just hold on for the moment and re-evaluate the situation in 2 or 3 months.
Thanks for your input!
Availability of graphics cards is very bad.

Nvidia is going to restart limited production of older cards.

I think I would go for a used card in your shoes or a GTX1650.
You could spend a tiny amount now on something like a 660 and then wait for prices to get more fair. Lots of older cards will likely run what you want, run it well, and not kill your bank account.

P.s. I'm talking about the pre-owned market.

I think a 1650 would be a better choice over the 1050 Ti and it's more future proof if you later decide to upgrade your CPU.
I had a lot of fun with a 1050Ti

i could play loads of modern titles with reasonable graphics @1080p and 60 hz

Bought a rog strix version back in the days for around 200 euro's
used it for almost a year before i decided i needed more gpu for total war warhammer II

don't forget to look for newer gpu's though

i belief radeon has also a budget card that outperforms the 1050Ti by a longshot for about the same price
How much does the GTX 1650 cost there? How about the Radeon RX 5500 XT? This one is better than all of them, but if it's too overpriced, then it's not worth for your system.

Here you can check the relative performance of the GTX 1650 compared to other GPUs.

At the moment both the 1650 and the 5500xt are beyond my budget (both 250 euros and upwards).

It is a bad time to search for a graphics card.

But, based on info that Dark_Art_ kindly provided, I will probably wait for the new Nvidia line of 3050 cards. I read some articles but for now only speculations exist, as Nvidia has not officially announced production dates etc.
Tech supply chains are having a hiccup right now. Unclear when it will be restored to its former glory.
Prices like that are not worth paying.

Panaias: Hello everyone,

A few months ago I had created another thread asking your advice on getting a better graphics card for my PC and most people suggested I get a Radeon RX570.

The thing is, this card is now nowhere to be found in my country :) at least not in a logical price.

So now I would like your advice on another card, the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 Ti - 4GB.

I can get it now at a price of 165 euros. Is it worth it?

To clarify, my main specs are:
-Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3
-CPU: AMD FX 8350
-PSU: 600W Thermaltake (Bronze)

As you see it's not a shiny new PC, but it still serves me pretty well for the games I play. Also, I know that as time passes by, it will be even more difficult to find a card for this PC, which I want to keep for a few years to come.

So what do you think?

P.S. My current graphics card is a GeForce GT 730 - Silent - 2GB, so you can imagine that all these years I've been gaming with a media player :)
It's such a bad card, any of the following would be way better

1650 Super (not standard because likewise it is a bad card)
RX 570
RX 580
1660
1660 Super
1660 TI

Second hand:

290
390
Vega 56
Vega 64
780
780 TI
970
1060

And there are plenty of games that your CPU won't bottleneck. Also the 550 isn't a good card either

If you want a cheap card second hand 290s/390s is the way to go
i did not really understand how bad the current situation is until last night i decided to visit the website of my favorite hardware store..... man i couldn't stop laughing!

and all of these 3d party sellers that offer 2060 supers and 5700XT's for insane prices atm

all in all the OP is probably better of with saving some money and wait until the whole corona whistled away, and all the miners got their new cards of course

the 5500XT is supposed to go for under 200 bucks, and yea the coming 3050 is an excellent choice as long as titles that support DLSS will continu to slowly invade the market

Yeah, it will work perfectly with your computer, it's a great graphics card!!!
But if you can extend your budget a little more you can purchase a GTX 1650 Super, almost the double of performance for a little extra money.
